• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

the R9's are so passé .... now its all about the 58's ...

the 1959 reissue historics are so " 2010 " .... now its all about the 58s which IMHO have always been more vintage looking.

and the new list price reflects this too .... its almost like one of the big wigs at Gibson finally noticed this and asked the question something along the lines of " why are we selling the 58s for thousands less when they cost us just about the same to make and some of them are even more vintage looking ? "

in fact to me the new Murphy Lab 58's are the most vintage looking historics I have seen
( but what did I know .... I am just a character on an internet forum )

Let me add a little more to this .... lets get back to the 58s
if the 58s are not the sweethearts of 2021 why is it that Gibson is pricing them ..... up to ..... or in this case 11 grand ?

riddle me THAT one Joker ?

58s were made in 58. More vintage looking to who? Vintage 50's Bursts cover a lot of "looks" and weak tops only look like weak tops. This notion that a bland top looks more vintage is so passe and lame. So is using top tier Murphy Lab pricing as some indicator of R8 value.

passe', my asse', '58 one less number cool than a '59, and will always be! Then again, I like my R0 :)
Which is 9 less than a '59?

Or 1 more?

Does the number 13 ever enter this equation?

Who's number 1?

I am CONTINUALLY out-scienced these days by the smarterer young ones.

Am I now to be out-ciphered as well?

...I'll give you a grand each, but don't hang around, my offer only stands for a week.

Disclaimer : As far as my affection goes for the several R8's I've owned over the years its the necks a profile I prefer with a Les Paul .
I ordered the photoed VOS R8 summer of 2007 arrived in November . R9's are great Guitars .

I am sure you all know the numbers and model type year for the historic that is the most valued here.
To each his own with the year/finish/neck and what you like and can afford.(y)
There is no contest to pit the 3 years that made it in the count here. I love my R9 period and you love your 58 so be happy man and play on. ✌️

More vintage than what??? You make weak, ignorant statements and try to dress your preference up by saying moronic crap like barbecue top and referring to R8s as 58s. What an amazing insight. Take a weak top and give it the famous fake wear and dirt and now it's way better and thousands more. Give it a good top and it's a R9 with an 8 in front. Even more dough. More vintage my ass. Everytime I see that it is just some impression from someones idea of what real 50's burst look like. WTF! I've owned 2 handled about a dozen, seen many more and they are all over the visual spectrum. From mild to wild and all points inbetween.

Old school thinking, Stumpy???? You have no clue, I'm positively Jurassic.

I own R8 and R9 LPs, love 'em. But R8s aren't any more vintage in appearence, spec or feel. It's pretty cool to find examples you really like but that is all it is. Found some you liked. The rest of your declarations are nothing more than hyperbole.

Hey Stumpedhead, I said your statement was ignorant. I can't help it if you are. Ignorance is not knowing, you've proven that.
