• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The "if you had a time machine" concert.

It's fascinating hearing about the best and worst gigs in the current threads.

What about the ones you just didn't get to....?

I'd have loved to have seen -

King Crimson in Hyde Park in 1969 ( Supporting The Stones )

Free at the Isle of Wight ( or anywhere for that matter )

Rory on the 74 Irish Tour.

Creedence in Manchester 1970.

MKII Deep Purple.

Cream's last shout at the Royal Albert Hall.

Humble Pie at the Filmore.

Zeppelin 75 Earls Court.

Floyd at Pompeii.

Black Sabbath in 1970.

Sonny Rollins performing "The Bridge"...anywhere.

Band of Gypsies, December 31, 1969 or January 1, 1970, Fillmore East.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer November 14, 1973, Miami Jai Alai Fronton. This was the first show of the Brain Salad Surgery Tour. I was there, but I'd love to experience that show again in all its quadraphonic glory. I also have another, more persona reason for wanting to back there.

Hendrix played in a little venue less than 10 minutes from my house. That's one.
Pink Floyd on original Dark Side of the Moon.
Rush's last show.

Two concerts come to mind. Hendrix was in town and I didn't see him. I have no idea why I didn't go. The other was Miles Davis at Massey Hall.in the 90's. He was pretty old at that point, but it was likely the last time to see the great musician.

Hendrix at Monterey Pop Festival in '67 along with Butterfield, Al Cooper, Canned Heat, Moby Grape, Janis Joplin, the Who, Booker T, Otis Redding and others. Caught Jimi in '68...but would have LOVED to have seen that first big show in the US!!

If I had to choose one, it would be one of, if not all four, of the Humble Pie shows at the Fillmore East, in NYC.

I saw them twice on that tour!! Both times at the Eastown theater in Detroit. Man, they tore the place down. Easily the two most intense performances I've ever seen! Those guys were on fire. I can still almost feel the shivers running down my spine when Frampton cut loose on I'm Ready.

I saw the Firm twice, and Page on his 1988 Outrider solo tour. But I would have loved to have seen pre-1977 Led Zeppelin. Bonzo died a couple of years before I started going to concerts.

Shea Stadium 1964? The Beatles toppled Shea in `65 but not sure if you`re referring to that iconic concert.

Color me jealous!!!!

If I could choose another, it would be this one:

Although I no longer live there, I'm from Central New York. Of course, I was only 13 at the time, so it would've been pretty difficult for me to get to NYC to be there.

Man, Detroit was a great place for music growing up. I saw so many great shows at the Grande and Eastown. Caught the Stones and Cream at Olympia. Saw Return to Forever with DiMeola at the Masonic Temple. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Free and Hendrix at Cobo, Deep Purple at Ford Auditorium and many, many artists at Pine Knob and tons of tones at the Birmingham Teen Center--in fact that's where I saw Fleetwood Mac twice (once with Green and then less than a year later with Christine, when Kiln House came out).

Lots of great choices that I agree with 100%...I would definitely want to go back in time in the late 50s/early 60s and catch them double/triple bill shows at places like Silvio's in Chicago where you'd get Howlin' Wolf, Muddy etc for a dollar or two!
