I think it's how you represent them.

I have a replica, it's a fantastic guitar. I made sure I posted on the net about it, including pics and serial number, and always refer to it as a replica. That way, no one in the future can misrepresent the guitar.

Now, if I had been shrewd/dishonest (take your pick), I could have kept quiet, beavered away, sourced all the necessary original parts and represented it as an original. Then, in my opinion, it becomes a fake.

And if I was marketing a fake, I would have to keep firm and not waiver from my story for even one instant, otherwise the veil would drop and I would be revealed as a fraud.

I really like good replicas, I really dislike fakes. It is that clear to me.

Rob

And it is very clear to me that replicas are fakes.
When offering them, explaining that is necessary to be honest.
But, it is still a fake, a forgery, a replica.
Word games.

And look at the 4 posters in a row. What a surprise. :rolleyes

Do you sell replicas/fakes?
You have advertised them.

And I do not appreciate your personal attack. Perhaps a moderator will do something about this crap? :fu

I've never offered or sold one at REAL money though. Some folk would like you to believe I've sold real guitars at replica money but I'm a bit smarter than that. And I apologise for the personal attack, and I admit it was childish and immature of me to poke you like that. :dang

Re: 1960 Gibson Korina Explorer " Kandye Kane " Guitars West Owned on ebay

Man not trying to hijack this thread but believe it or not there is not hardly a day goes by that I don't think about my old 58/63 Explorer I owned back in the mid 80s. I think about it almost everyday. Its kinda like I had the winning lottery ticket and lost it. I knew it was going to be worth big money but had a back injury and needed the money. Beside this Old man in Nashville told me since it had nickel hardware it would never be worth as much as it gold plated clad brothers. Back to the guitar in Question I would like it to think its real but after reading all the post I'm confused. One thing I've noticed is on a lot of the Real 58 Explorers I've seen in Pictures the bottom or rear strap button is usually located about 4 to 5 inches from the edge of the rear Horn where as the ones that shipped in the early 60s like my old ser # 8 4543 and my late friends Tom E.s explorer ser # 9 1715 and several others I've got pictures of the bottom strap button is located further in toward the center line of the body. Not like a 76 or modern day Explorer but at least an inch or two further than the the ones with gold Hardware. Also if you will notice there are several photos of original Korina Explorers out there with gold hardware and pickups covers but with 6 on a strip tuners like on the 63 version. A lot of these has been changed over to gold hardware decades ago. I know if you take a set of 6 on a Strip single line kluson tuners like used on the 60s versions and on late 63 Epiphone Coronets and Olympics the post will not line up with some of the modern day Historic Explorers. I know I've tried on a 98 and a 2001.

Mr. Hern,

That was a personal attack against somebody whom questioned your guitar. I thought we had an understanding.

You can start a thread, I'd be very interested to see pics or discuss your old Explorer.... I've been playing and collecting guitars 38 years and I realize everything I know about these guitars is what I've read (in books or the internet) and some of it is wrong, that's why I like to hear first hand tales of owner and people that have experience with the '58-'63 Explorers.
