Look again, they don't line up! Read the other post I did explain.
Clive

Clive,

This is my take on it.

They are not going to line up perfectly. Because they were a mistake to begin with, the blade "skipped" from the guard onto the paint. So there is going to be a slight variable.

There are all kind of peculiar tooling marks all around the guard....I only posted a small sampling of the photos Richard sent me. There are areas on the guard where there are no tool marks. This is a complete aberration among All of the hundreds of Gibson guards I have observed over 30+ years.

You also have the undeniable dremil buffing wheel marks on the treble side of the neck pickup and the poor quality 4 ply lamination work.

Rob, if you've had friends over tonight and had a couple of drinks etc,, may I respectfully suggest you call it a night mate. We're playing nicely here, and anyway, Big Urn fired your ass. :laugh2: What I've been made to believe from the last couple of days of speaking with Gary, is that he doesn't care what anyone thinks about this guitar. It's his guitar, he's paid for it, he is very happy with the purchase and is more than happy to put his name 'GUITARS WEST', as well as the name of a deceased blues singer, to the guitar. He's taken the advice from experts he trusts, he trusts the seller who he bought the guitar from and no crime has been committed. And lastly and most of all, he's having fun. :salude Ain't that the truth Gazza? You 'big urn'. At least our man in the moon didn't call you a 'balloon'.

Right, I'm off to smoke a fat one and write a song.......

"Our man in the mooooon, spoke up too sooooooon, called Gaz a balloooooon, oh what a babooooon":hank
Richard, thanks man. Again! It's only a guitar!!! I can't stress that enough. It's not a heart transplant, brain tumor...etc. Also, for the superb pics. Saved me a lot of times as I have better things to do, like do in my laundry, clean my back yard, wash my Akita!!! "Spurs" made a grave mistake and broke the rules, now he must pay the piper. He won't call as he had no testicles... So there for he must have the infamous "gash" !!! Damn, I'm funny and you are right! Having a bloody grand time! You are correct about the dish! Try Hadley Cove where I kicked Lennox arse, Potters Bar where a drank Sean Bean under the table at The Orange Tree Pub or Abbey Roads Studio where the escorted me out as I told them I was Gazza Starr, Ringos brother. Pricks! Couldn't take a joke!!! Cheers, Gaz

They seem to line up pretty damn well! What are the chances of all of these lining up as closely as they have?:bug

Those dozen or so razor blade marks, matching precisely the continuation of the checking lines, is so telling.

Straight question Clive, how do you explain the precise coincidence of checking lines on the body with what appear to be razor marks on the guard, per the picture Eric posted.

If you're convinced the guitar is straight, then surely you must have an explanation?

I've stared at that photo enough to see several places where they do not line up.
What would be the explanation for that?

I would think someone making that mistake with a razor blade would smooth out those marks. :hmm

It would be awesome if we could all discuss the guitar...

I have no interest in all of the psych games. I have spoken to or emailed many of the people you have. If you want to say something...put it in writing.

Unless they were left as a 'tell' by the maker?

Don't all honest replica makers leave 'tells' in their guitars? :hmm Some alter the body shape slightly I've heard?

This is is an interesting read:

Razor blade checking marks on the pickguard is an undeniable fact

I feel sad for this whole f cked up situation

Hi, I'm not sure who you are. Please don't feel sad! I've a phone # I posted. Feel free. What makes me happy and having fun are the educated people who believe stuff like razor blades, pink fairies, the band Russ and cosmic waste. That's some funny shit... Cheers, Gaz

They probably were not visible to the eye until dirt worked their way into them

Seriously?
What replica makers leave marks like that as 'tells'? :wah

And what explains the several marks that don't line up?

Answered in post #101.

I would also add there IS a gap between the bevel of the guard and the surface of the guitar. The guard is 4 ply with the back black layer not conforming to angle of the rest of the bevel.

You can see where the blade exists the bottom of the guard in the middle of the third layer.

Rich was right, I should stay away from the computer after having imbibed a couple of sherbets on a Saturday night.

Gary, you are trying, and I appreciate that, I apologise for any offence.

Rob

Awww shucks Rob, I'm not jumping your bones, maybe your wife's, but not yours... I know you want to be as my well know best Kraut burst friend " one of the Guys", you are a bit short. No harm done. The fun is just begging! Be Happy! Gaz

My question, as a know nothing interloper, would be who is dumb enough to do razor checking on a guitar they are faking and put cuts in the pickguard? I'm pretty sure even I could manage it without being that kind of sloppy. It just doesn't seem to line up with logic. And wouldn't you be doing that with the guard off anyway?

I will now return to making my dog lunch and playing my swingin' new Nachocaster. Thank you for your time.

They don't line up, the guard is correct, check underneath, I've compared it to others that you probably know. I wouldn't keep on with this guitar if I thought it wasn't original.
I have had this guitar apart various times, if I could find something wrong with it I would gladly tell you, I can't!
Why do you want to keep running this guitar down, because of it's past history? The guitar can't help the company it has kept, certain areas of the company it has been in may be dubious but the guitar is fine.
You know people I know Charlie, ask them if I lie about guitars, I don't! If you don't like me or what I say about the guitar, that's fine too.
I thought that you guys on this forum were supposed to like guitars and finding out about them and the different things that went on in factories with different models, I do!
This just seems like a witch hunt to me!

Discussing this guitar here is a waste of time. Anyway, have fun, enjoy those old Gibsons that are Guaranteed Against Faulty Workmanship and Materials. And as BH says, play nice. :2cool

Edge marks on that pickguard do not look like router chatter to me. That looks totally different.

I wouldn't know.
I haven't seen every one of them.
Sure seems possible though. :ganz

Tom, you are so darn funny! Your dry sense of humor. I don't think even the Limeys get it! If you stop by Det's the Kraut give him a kick in the shins for me. And thanks again for you and Uncle Charlie keeping it fair and balanced. Well kinda! Ha! BH
