Very interesting, I’m not sure what I’m missing here, could some one clue me in? not that I’m in the market to buy a Korina Explorer, having said that, these guys are focusing on parts of a guitar and not the actual construction of the guitar? Or who it was named after? I bought a guitar without the original case once and it was an original guitar.

Assuming one has an original Explorer as a guide, the actual construction is pretty straightforward. However, getting your hands on an original case, guard, or tuners is an extremely difficult task. Getting your hand on all three would be near impossible.

I have bought vintage guitars with changed parts, missing cases and so on, it did not change the fact they are original vintage or used guitars. If the parts are changed out, no reason to see why, like so many "repairman", "dealers" or "brokers" would pinch the parts for a quick buck, happens all the time. It's funny how at guitar shows you will see a dealer with a PILE of vintage parts organized and put in compartment boxes of Pickguards, PAF pickups, Cases and so on with so much detail of knowing what that part or case is for, at premium prices.... :hmm did these used parts just get left at their doorstep like an orphan for that dealer to deal with?

Spurs, I was so hoping that you would help the blight, but now as I see the inner you might heart, my wife, my kids, my grand kids are just down right heart broken. My wife is in S.C. as we speak. She darn near wants to take a willow twitch you skinny white ass. Oh boy, she could do it too! Ha! So what you and I are now going to do is play a little dirt game. I ask, you answer. Fair enough. Good, because that razor blade on the pick guard sent me over the top. So let's you and I have some fun! And everybody else shhhhhhhhh! Quiet! Please get them all correct or the dirt will fly... Ha! #1. What happens if you take all the plastic of any 50's Gibson and put it in a sealed bag for about a week the open it? #2. The '57 white octave doubleneck guitar you have. Who was the underrated player that owned it? #3. Who obtained the guitar from him? #4. What were the issues on both necks, head sticks and pickups? #5. The masses can chime in on this one... If you prefer not to say I'm on your side, as this could get very dirty, and unlike you I'm not going there. I know what your fave is and my lips are sealed... Everybody, have a wonderful night, God bless and sleep tight. Spurs, take your time, sleep on it. Cheers, Big Hern

By the way Candye Cane the artist was great and put up a very brave fight with cancer for many years. She was superb at the festivals I did with her back in the day and so nice to me and everyone around her. The guitar I am staying out of. No dis to Big Hern whom I consider a longtime friend. I just don't know Korina and most of all I don't want Clive to yell at me again. :salude

We ALL know it's a fake, it's been known to a number of people for a long time, including the last owner, who bought it at "real" prices and sold it at "fake" prices.

Whatever you can do to get out of this guitar with dignity is what ought to be done.

Rob, I'm really trying. Have u ever owned one. Have you smelled this one? Please let me know. Your apology will be accepted. Thanks old friend. Big Hern

That's really sad to hear.
Someone needs to teach him how to pass a lie detector test.
When knowing something is blayently false... Ask yourself... is the stop sign green... ? Then answer calmly.
That is something I learned from an old mobster in New York a long time ago.
That pretty much sums up my conversation and Q and A with Clive about the guitar before I banished it to my garage... Next to a very nice authentic German car. The Halliburton case did well.
Enough now about this subject.

Rich was right, I should stay away from the computer after having imbibed a couple of sherbets on a Saturday night.

Gary, you are trying, and I appreciate that, I apologise for any offence.

We're not talking about many models, we're talking about this guitar.

Is there another known original Korina Explorer missing both the original case and pickguard?

I wouldn't know.
I haven't seen every one of them.
Sure seems possible though. :ganz

I believe that when the guitar was walked in to the UK from the US it was in a home-made type wooden case.

The current case is/was an MG addition to the "set".

1960_gibson_explorer_guard_issues.jpg

Those dozen or so razor blade marks, matching precisely the continuation of the checking lines, is so telling.

Gary, do you actually own the guitar, or does Graham still own it?

Hi Joe,
Why would you call me a con man? Who have I conned? Name me someone....have I conned you? You don't even know me. Ask some of the people who you know and actually do know me if I'm a con man....
If I am asked about a vintage guitar I always give a truthful answer based on fact and the knowledge that I have built up over the 25 years I have worked on vintage guitars. I have had the good fortune to take apart every guitar that comes through my workshop, which amounts to over 4000, so I do know what I'm looking at, I don't lie for anyone!!!
If this is about the guitar in this thread, I've known the guitar since 2006, had it apart various times, compared it to some famous Korina's and can find absolutely nothing to suggest it is anything but original. It did have 2 changed jack plate screws when I first saw it, they were replaced with the correct ones. The marks on the guard are from the router bit that put the chamfer on they are not razor blade cuts...
Gibson didn't put guitars they couldn't sell in expensive cases to sell cheaply or give away! It's not hard to work out....
I have personally tracked the guitar back to 1985 and have documentation to prove it, I also have no reason to lie about this guitar or any other that I have seen.
In my opinion this 1960 Gibson Explorer is original whether you, or anyone else, likes it or not!!!!
Don't call me a con man, it isn't fair and it definitely isn't true.

Straight question Clive, how do you explain the precise coincidence of checking lines on the body with what appear to be razor marks on the guard, per the picture Eric posted.

If you're convinced the guitar is straight, then surely you must have an explanation?

Was this guitar once owned by a famous player in a metal band? Or am I confusing this one?

No, you're on the mark. We talked about it in person at length.

Never a Folgers coffee can around when you need one... We can agree to disagree on this one. But you remember our conversation about this guitar right Clive?
I have bigger problems this weekend than some Explorer with a certificate from 1985.... Any pics with the original owner on Gardner street perhaps?
Now back to my day job.
Authenticating Dwight guitars..

Yeah, John Nelson discovered it in 1985 (so I hear?) and Kirk Hammett bought it. Kirk dumped it in 2006 and replaced it with a different Explorer which he bought from Albert Molinaro a year or so later.

Here's some pics from 2008 with the guitar Kirk still has now.

Yes Joe,
I remember our conversation very well, I was asked to call you at 9am one Sunday morning to discuss the guitar, you were rude for no reason and someone had to apologise for you because you had been drinking.
What or where is Gardner Street?

You don't have to authenticate Dwight Guitars, just call me or check for my stamp inside just like it is on all my restorations.
By the way what have I ever done wrong to you?

Look again, they don't line up! Read the other post I did explain.
