• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Happy Belated Burstday

Congrats Frank!

I knew you would eventually get one. I am actually a bit surprised its a plain top but honestly its such a cool looking guitar. There's practically no red at all! Awesome.

Is there any hiding under the plastic?

If you are bringing that to philly this year I think I may have to take the trip. :rofl

Beautiful photography too man.
Your vintage collection is starting to expand now!

I don't think I have ever seen a back faded that much! :wow

And just so everyone knows, a 4 latch Lifton is also correct for Bursts. :)

Wow, thanks for all the nice comments, guys! I'm actually not much of a player, but I'm really enjoying playing this thing. Whenever I have some free time...which isn't too often these days...I have this guitar in my hands. And for those of you who have asked about how it sounds, all I can say is that to me, it sounds incredible. But because of my limited abilities as a player, and because of the crappy amps I have to play this thing through, I'm not really that good of a judge. But I can say that others who have played it, who have experience with vintage guitars, have really liked it. And one of the former owners, who has nothing to gain by telling me this, said it's the best 'burst he's ever played.

...What plastic parts are missing?

The jack plate has been changed to a repro, because the one that came with the guitar was cracked. Also, the poker chip appears to be from '57/'58, and likely not a '59. Otherwise, all the other plastic appears to be original. The neck pickup ring has a crack in it, and has been re-glued (but not a particularly pretty re-glue job).

I have photos of that guitar sporting a pair of zebras. Have they been swapped out or just covered?

Dan, the zebras have been re-covered. For this guitar, I personally like the way it looks with the covers back on.

Thanks, John. Yes, I plan on bringing it to Philly, so hopefully I'll get to see you there again this year!

And yes, there's some red hiding under the plastic. Here's a photo showing it:

Tom, good eye with regard to the back color. I think the camera and/or lighting may have been playing tricks on me. In fact, the back does have more red in it than the above pic shows. I'll try and play around with the photo a bit to see if I can get it to more accurately reflect the correct color.

And a 4 latch Lifton being correct for a '59? I had no idea! That's great to know!

Thanks again, everyone!

Beautiful! :wow

Boy, judging by the area of the PG screw, that one was a very deep red before it faded.

Tom, I went ahead and adjusted the color on the above photo of the back to more accurately reflect the true color. I think what happened was that the group of photos I took outside, I adjusted the color in Photoshop all the same so that the top greening color was correct, but that same adjustment washed out the back color too much. Anyway, thanks for pointing that out...and now, you still have never seen a back faded "that much"! :lol
