• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Has anyone mentioned the Beck historic = $24,999

Gibson's still catering to the over-rich, sky is the limit, hedge fund guys who are now all watching their money like a 3 card monte shark watches his cups.
These signed limited edition toys rarely prove to be a good investment.

And the irony is that Beck spent the last 3 decades playing his strats. He used that LP for what, 2 albums?

Such bullshit. It's just sad that there are people in this world rich enough to this Beck but they are too stupid to buy a REAL 54 GT for 25k. Or, at least Gibson THINKS there are people out there that dumb. More power to Gibson if they can sell them at that price, would be a real coup.

Prices like that are aimed at those who are susceptible to a private world of make-believe within a specific age group. Its a house of cards subject to major collapse when the next generation comes along with money in their pockets. "Jeff who? Like dude, its just an R4."

That's f&$*#^# ridiculous! I was just reading about Beck today and the Burst that Rick Nielsen gave him in '68 for $350. Now THAT was a great guitar(I think it was called "zebra" because of the zebra neck PAF). Why not do a reissue of a great BURST? Regardless, the price is absurd. Buy a vintage Goldtop instead!:rofl :rofl :rofl

I dont get why people complain so much about price. No one is twisting anyones arm to buy one. Gibson makes guitars like these because they are proven sellers and they turn a high profit. Cant say I blame them. I just wish I hade the money to buy the one of the first 25 Page's.

I guess you can't blame them for making as much as they can. I'm sure that a major reason the sell as many high-end guitars as they do is because of the LPF among others. One of the reasons I'm grateful to this place is that I had no idea what an historic Les Paul was until I landed here. I spent more money than I planned to but I got a great guitar. It sure does go to ridiculous extremes though.

Guys these guitars are not marketed at us. They are marketed at the die hard Jeff beck fans that obsess over everything he does.

Now if we fall into that category cool, but at the end of the day, the wall street gang may be the "blame" but the die hard fans are targeted as well.

Look, if I never bought a guitar in my life, but was a Zepp fan and you told me for a 15k I can buy a guitar that was not only played by Jimmy Page, but autographed and evidenced by a DVD of him playing it, I'd really consider it.

Why? I never bought a guitar in my life, have no idea what is good or not good and would have no back ground or money spent / lost on guitars.

Just sayin.

For the record, 25k is insane.

Good point, Fixxer. It's the same thing as trying to tell someone who doesn't know guitars why I want an R9 (or R7 even) over a Studio. If you don't get it, it can't be explained to you.

I agree to that $25K is insane, but I'm told Gibson had to pay Beck $10K per guitar to play and sign them. They ponied up. I will tell you that I played #1 at NAMM, the one Beck chose for himself (it was shipped to him after the show) and that guitar was a monster. Really, REALLY, light with tone AND balls. There is nothing better than humbuckers with a wraptail. And I used to own an '03 BRW Oxblood that I wish I'd kept. For the record, I believe they may have tweaked the Burstbucker line, as the 2 and 3 in Beck's #1 sounded WAY better than the ones in my '03.

I believe that is the "concept" that runs with the guitar, but that its just a concept. The real purpose for some or most, is to sell the concept with the guitar for a higher price later on. Each seller can say, "but Beck fans will want it. Buy it now." The buyer becomes a seller and says the same thing to the next guy. $50K for a $5K guitar. Like a pyramid scheme.

For the die hard hard fans that aren't buying it for simply a possible future investment return in this scheme, well those guys probably figured out long ago that they could have a Conversion with vintage PAF;s for less, and now they have both. The conversion and the new signature model. Plus they have at least one Oxblood. Cool. They can give us tone reports when they A/B the guitars.
