• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

My local shop has got a second hand Vibrolux custom with a 15" speaker with some kind of mod designed by SRV's guitar tech. Has anyone tried one of these? I think I'll give it a blast but its expensive. I think its part of the Pro tube range. It seems to have got mixed reviews around the net.
Thanks everyone for all the input, its very helpful.

The Deluxe Reverb is a great amp. I love my tweeds, but they cannot create that classic sparkly, chimey sound that Fender blackface amps are famous for. They do overdrive very nicely at a reasonable volume (compared to a twin, or plexi etc.) but they do have a good amount of headroom which makes them an excellent choice for gigs in smaller venues (If you play a large hall, just mic it). They are also fairly light and easy to handle, which you will appreciate every time you move it. They also do very well with pedals.

If you are trying to get away from pedals, the DRRI is cheap enough that you may have money left over for a Tweed Deluxe or maybe a vintage Silvertone 1472 or 1482 (These are the best amp value I know of. They are generally between $300-$400 on eBay. Be patient and get one that has a Jensen speaker in it). These amps overdrive early and sound incredible. This way, you would have a nice lightweight two amp setup with loads of pure tone heaven!

Here's one from the other side: Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight. I bought one in the summer and it has replaced a bunch of tube beasts. I still have my '63 Silvertone Twin Twelve, and a Blues Jr NOS tweed I play my 335 through, but the JM is the one Lester sings through. It's the one and only solid state amp I've owned (not counting a couple of bass amps) but it kills. Small, light, clean and distortion channels, and it has 250 watts for when you go out and gig.

The only problem is finding one to try out. My dealer had to order mine, but once he got it in, it was love at first listen.

A friend and I A/B'd it with his '67 Super, and there wasn't enough difference between them to tell.

If you're leaning towards a DRRI, definitely check out the Allen Accomplice. It's basically the AB763 blackface circuit with a very usable master volume and a 'raw' switch, which pushes you into Tweed/Marshall territory. A little more expensive than a DRRI, but not much and very worth it!

check it out....Vibrolux are very cool amps especially the reverbs w/2x10's very sought after and would be perfect for your playing or anybodies playing. Half a SuperReverb....which is one of the coolest amps made. Many a player and giger use them.
