As I recall that Custom is now owned by Chris Spedding, or at least it was. Wasn't it a '54? That is a great solo by the way!

That's cool. That looks like it must be a clip from a movie. I've read Bill Haley did a few movies back in the 50's based on that crazy new fad all the kids were into at the time, rock 'n roll!

Those cats watching them, the one on the right might be Alan Freed. Anyone know?

I love the lick from 1:35 - 1:40. Gotta learn that one!

That bass solo is pretty durn sad though. I'm sure it had major attitude for the day (what with laying it down and straddling it and all), but from 2007...

Rock around the Clock was the name of the movie and Alan Freed had a small roll in it..

I think Blackboard Jungle is the one that most people associate with the wild Rock 'n Roll craze. The film opens with "Rock around the Clock", and it was known to work kids into a frenzy in the theatres. Very scandalous stuff. :dude:

Frannie Beecher, wasn't it? Not Frank?

I managed to see Bill Haley at a rock'n'roll reunion show way long time ago, like during the Nixon Administration.
The bass player was this creaky old timer and he did all sorts of tricks with the standup, like tilting it way over to the side and then climbing up the side. But as I say, he was *real old* looking (well, I was a kid, so maybe he wasn't all that decrepit, and besides, he was doing gymnastics on the side of a standup bass) and it was all pretty funny.
Haley still had that spit curl, too.
