Hi guys,
I’m super excited to say that my very long hunt for a cherry ’64 ES 335 is over! :jim
For about a decade this has been my most coveted model of guitar, but I never thought I’d be able to afford one.
About a year ago it turned out that I might after all, after which the happy hunting began. Last week, I bought this simply stunning example from Nottingham City Guitars, and I couldn’t be happier. It plays, sounds and looks just phenomenal! eace2
It is all original except for a changed tuner and a period correct but not original Lifton hardcase.
The neck is to die for, seriously, this has to be the most comfortable shape on any Gibson I have tried yet.
For the past 10 years, I had a cherry red 1970 ES 335, which I still feel is an exceptional guitar. The two sound quite similar, but the ’64 has this extra bit of clarity and evenness in all positions, plus a lot more dynamic response to the way I play. Also, it just feels and plays a lot better.
Tomorrow I’ll take it to rehearsals for the first time, pretty sure it will blow me away once more when played over a loud amp in a band context. :hank
As a side note, I sold 5 very nice guitars to help finance this beauty, and reducing my small collection even further was actually a great experience. I feel way better having a few great guitars that I actually get to play regularly, than hoarding lots of guitars that each only get very little playing time.
I still own 9 guitars in total, but if I had to, I would be perfectly happy with this 335, my Tele and my 000-18.
Maybe, hopefully, one day I get to the point where I can reduce my collection even more and be happy with less. :hippyWorking on it !
