Hi guys,
I’m super excited to say that my very long hunt for a cherry ’64 ES 335 is over! :jim
For about a decade this has been my most coveted model of guitar, but I never thought I’d be able to afford one.
About a year ago it turned out that I might after all, after which the happy hunting began. Last week, I bought this simply stunning example from Nottingham City Guitars, and I couldn’t be happier. It plays, sounds and looks just phenomenal! :peace2
It is all original except for a changed tuner and a period correct but not original Lifton hardcase.
The neck is to die for, seriously, this has to be the most comfortable shape on any Gibson I have tried yet.
For the past 10 years, I had a cherry red 1970 ES 335, which I still feel is an exceptional guitar. The two sound quite similar, but the ’64 has this extra bit of clarity and evenness in all positions, plus a lot more dynamic response to the way I play. Also, it just feels and plays a lot better.
Tomorrow I’ll take it to rehearsals for the first time, pretty sure it will blow me away once more when played over a loud amp in a band context. :hank

As a side note, I sold 5 very nice guitars to help finance this beauty, and reducing my small collection even further was actually a great experience. I feel way better having a few great guitars that I actually get to play regularly, than hoarding lots of guitars that each only get very little playing time.
I still own 9 guitars in total, but if I had to, I would be perfectly happy with this 335, my Tele and my 000-18.
Maybe, hopefully, one day I get to the point where I can reduce my collection even more and be happy with less. :hippyWorking on it !

I can't see the pics. I love this period too. I've got one changed to stop tail. I had a long guard on it for while but it's back to stock. I have one of the "CUSTOM" TRCs so it's on there now (like Clapton's). Very light guitar. Neck is a little slim as the previous owner planed quite a bit off the fretboard.

enjoy!

That's unfortunate, I'm trying to post again using my google account.
The top one is the '64, below the '70 one. Both really great instruments!

Thanks guys! Those 335 necks vary so much it is crazy. I tried a '61 and a '63 recently, both were way too slim for my taste.
For a short while I also had a '66 335, which had a nice round neck, but otherwise was more than below average, just a bad guitar really.
When I bought the '64 the seller was super nice and gave me a 7 day return option, which made the whole deal very relaxed as I could try the guitar at home via my amp before settling for it. :jim

Wow, thats cool! Yes, the Tweed Vibrolux is an amazing amp. I had a 5E3 before, but always had a hard time dialing in my sound. With the Vibrolux it is so much easier. The controls actually make sense! :hee
It is everything I thought a Tweed Deluxe would be but wasn't :peace2

Hey,
I think the pics should still be visible, at least I was able to see them on a different computer without being logged into my google account.

The experience with Nottingham City Guitars was just great, Andy the owner was extremely helpful and upfront with everything about the guitar. It arrived very well packed and in no time. I'd gladly shop there again, in person or online. :salude

I've just started a search for my first ES335, I can't imagine how fullfiling it must be to have found 'the one'. Congratulations!
