Hi all,

Trying to get an opinion on a year.

I have an LP Deluxe with the serial number 891851A. No volute, no Made in USA, open B and O, no dot on the I and pots are 34th week of 1969. My understanding is that the A wasn’t added until 1970, but all other signs point to 1969. Has anyone seen a 1969 with an A after the serial?

Never seen an number like that. Looks legit (if original finish)

Pot codes say mid '69. So it was late 69 or early 70.

That would make it a 5 digit number, which does not make sense. :hmm

The numeric portion of the serial number all matches. The “A” is misaligned, but it appears to have been stamped at the same time. I don’t think it was done after the fact. I doubt they had letters on their number stamps. My guess is a second one was used for the “A” and that would explain the misalignment. If it wasn’t for the “A” the guitar would be unquestionably considered a 1969. It’s a weird one.

For the life of me I cannot remember where I saw it, but I kind of remember seeing an A like that before. Maybe on a Left handed guitar from this same serial range (the lefties first showed up around 891 or so as I recall.)
