• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The early years were all A3, but due to the scarcity of cobalt during the war years the AlNiCo blend had to be accommodating, so A4s and A5s became much more predominant later in the 50s. James did have some Vintage A5s when last we chatted, but I'm not sure what his stock looks like now. Duncan makes an aftermarket Alnico V pup... but I've never tried it.

Out of curiosity, which war years are you referring to? The ones that ended in 1945? :hmm

From one of Dave Stephens' contributions to Mario & James's PAF Book... “Alnico 3 was used during the Korean War (1950-1953) because cobalt was a "war mineral" and magnet makers had no access to it. So, A3 was called "ALNI" because there was no "CO" as in cobalt”.
