• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

looking at that '57 and the wear just above the low E string reminds me of the relicing Historic Makeovers did on one of their GoldTops...:2cool

Thats exactly what I thought.
And it's like its chipped, like from a banjo thumb pic or something.

Very nice pix. Mojo aside, how close was the tone of the reissue.

Was it.... tone on the original is nice, but I am satisfied or...

How much can I sell my car for tomorrow?

Honestly, and this is a typical expected response from a "non vintage owner", but I was pleasantly surprised as to how close the two of them sounded. Definatly not a, " how much can I sell my car for tommorow?" kind of sound.

(the '56 on the other hand sounded like HEAVEN imo)

The R7 has paper in oil Luxe caps, RS cts pots, stock BB's and stainless steel bridge studs. The taper on the pots, tone and volume, was very close between the two guitars, as was the general output when A/B'ing back and forth. I've A/B'd guitars back and forth where you go, " oh, OK yeah huge difference" not the case with these. (My R8 actually sounded closer to the '57, as the pups in it aren't as hot as the R7, and I swear they're unpotted ('cause when I swapped covers I couldn't see any wax, whereas the R7's pups had quite a bit of wax)

The overal feel, vibe, and inspiration you get from just holding the '57 is what sets them appart. That, and a certain sweet spot, when the amp is singing just right, that the PAF's have is another huge difference. It's that harmonic overtone, droool.

So, yes, I am satisfied with both my guitar's tone.
Do I wish I owned the '57?
Of course.
But it's a world I will most likely never be a part of.
