• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

How about a little vintage Fender love?

Wooow, sorry to bug CD but how do you compare that to your other 54 (with tremolo) or your early tele-esquire?

I'm really curious about hardtail strats, as I've never had the chance to play one.

Here's the other one. It's a hardtail.:jim

I'm digging the grain showing through the wear pattern on the body. Like a beautiful woman half undressed.

(I said like, not same as or good as. For clarity's sake. :) )

My 1961 Strat #70900. Sold a few years ago. Maybe should have kept this one.

My 1-57 Fender Strat. I bought this used in 1981 for $1200. The owner had a cool undocumented story that he told about it. Supposedly it was owned at one time by Clapton, who gave it to Jeff Beck. Beck played it for a while and then traded it in to a vintage guitar store in California in the mid 70's for an old Les Paul. It was bought from the vintage store by a bandmate of the guy that I bought it from. He said he had stopped playing and needed money to refinish his hardwood floors in an old house and said it had been in his closet for about three years. There are some oddities in the finish and color that points to a possible refin and possible back of the neck overspray, but the nail holes are still there under the pickguard. It could be just a lot of fading going on though. There is a picture in a Strat book I have of an old one that is about an exact duplicate of the color of this one. It is reported to be one of the first custom colored sunburst Strats ever made. Maybe this is a sister of it but who knows. Extremely thin finish that shows it sinking into the grain. I need to get some better close up pictures. GREAT tone on this guitar! :dude:

I got nothing as cool as you guys have but these are some little Fender guitars I used to own before I sold them all to a store in Tokyo.

I'm blown away by the amount of really amazing guitars are on this thread, I've got a couple to share with you all.

In order of age:

Nov 1950 Broadcaster, I bought this from Nacho, amazing guitar,

Next a 1956 Strat that I got from NJ ,

Next a 1956 Telecaster , The most comfortable V neck I've played

That's it for 50's Fenders ,
I hope you like them
regards

Watto, that Broadcaster is absolutely diabolical!
Daniel I pinch myself often, I never knew I'd get the chance to be it's caretaker. Especially an instrument I only ever dreamed of seeing in person one day , let alone owning one ....

I can imagine the feeling...you're in a pretty exclusive club :salude Is it wired stock or has the neck PU been unleashed?

I'm going to be in Australia later this month...can you recommend any vintage guitar shops in Sydney, Adelaide or Melbourne that are worth a stop?

1956 Strat pick up covers look like 1957...no bakelite wear?

1956 Tele looks more yellow and translucent than mine, in my hand before I picked up my laptop?

Just wondering, from what little I have heard of the vintage Fender world... is it true that there are a lot more fakes / repops out there than old Gibsons? is it possible enough to learn enough "tells" as I have with Gibsons where I could one day confidently buy an old Fender? Thanks
