• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Head Stock coming along nicely. The holly vaneer carefully selected, truss rod hole cleanly cut, trimmed to perfection. Hot hide glue the trimming and the sanding. The last shot just makes it all look so good.

Yeah, mine disappeared for a day.. now the piccy's are Back! Thanks!
BTW; venier is actually: veener on post #60
Duncan had a run of covers for the Staple Alnico V pickups made. They have both black and cream. I love these. I have one in the bridge spot of my Epi Casino as the regular P-90 just didn't quiet make it on that guitar..
Finish; I saw Duane's darkburst in Oct. `71 three months after he got it. The finish was more purple than any other darkburst I've seen. I think I've seen about 5 or 6 in person.

Template from original 1954 to make sure the logo is in the correct location. Probably more care taken to do this than was originally done in 1954. Nice knowing all the care that went into getting the details right.

Inlays and fish glue. Updates form the headstock. Routed, placed, filled and covered in blackened fish glue just like the 50's. Gotta love the attention to detail. Fish glue. I love that.

More head stock goodness. I just love seeing the work that's being done. Saying "move the logo" and actually seeing what it takes. Very cool.

I'm having a great time watching this. Black is the new black. Headstock is getting there.

Almost there. You can clearly see how moving that logo changes the vibe. Florian was right to suggest I do it. Thanks

I must say, I don't understand sending out a guitar for a makeover that finally does all the things you want (why mess with success?).

I finally landed on one that just does everything that I want. You know the one, when you plug it in each sound you get out of it makes you smile.

But I always enjoy watching the process. :yah

From my experience, the makeover process is foremost about the appearance of the guitar, as well how it feels haptically. If you have a guitar that does all the things you want sonically, you might just want it to look and feel a bit more like a well-used vintage one, without really affecting the sound.
