• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is it me or is the LPForum under ATTACK!!

Just a quick run through some of the posts reveals to me that the level of the forum and the knowledge herein has diminished. I think it is ok to be funny sometimes but it gets old ...and when people are just trying to learn the complex ins and outs of guitars and everything that incompasses them. People rant and rave about well "nothing".

Hey DaveP how about some screening?

Tech stuff gets old also sometimes too. The same guys are here but we now all know which pots to use, where to get double whites, Angela is out of stock on Gudemans, the and the going price of every Les Paul known.

Welcome to life at the Les Paul forum! Sometimes things just get weird, must be a moon phase thing or something.

What it boils down to is that many of us have been here since christ was a child, so while everything becomes old hat, we'll just act like assholes untill a newcomer appears and actually asks a question. It must look strange to outsiders, but that IS the charm of this place.

It's you.

I am in touch with the large one.

He is busy with playing and recording projects.
He just did a stint with Chris Duarte on a radio show.
He's also recording some of his originals in a new studio, and he's also been working with a local club and the sound system there.

I think he's forming a band to record with and play out in a house band situation.

Big Al Lives!:dude

I am not glad Al is gone, we'd get some great banter going back and forth sometimes, but I'm glad that he's playing more now. I saw him sit in with a band a couple months ago, and he is not your average picker! Imagine how good he'll sound with his own band that he jams with all the time...

If you let it, this place can drain a lot of time that you could be PLAYING a guitar instead of TALKING about playing.

There really isn't too much goofing around in the tech, amp, historic, and Dan Erlewine areas. The off topic area is another story. If you want to stick to serious discussions involving nothing but Les Pauls, there are plenty of areas that will meet that criteria.

Me, I think I'm going to go start a thread about groupies in the Hall of Doom. :dude

The somewhat large one...

Well I wasn't going to say anything but okay I'll add my 0.02 and mention that yeah Big Al seems to be doing okay. He's currently got his shaved-head-in-the-humid-summer look, we crossed paths this past weekend.
The stock pots in his R9 checked out to all be over 500K, that probably contributed to that guitar sounded as good as it did. I managed to get the damn stock caps out without damaging the pots (with both caps one lead was wound about four times around the terminal of the volume pot), then helped him install a set of double creme Antiquities and new caps. The neck Antiquity definitely sounded killer right from the first few riffs, the bridge one to be further explored... :dude

Big Al is the geatest man that ever lived!!!
Well maybe not the greatest because there was Evil Keneivel and he was pretty great. And of course we can't forget Eule Gibbons (Uncle of Billy) and finally last but not least Tiny Tim. Big Al is right below those three though.

In all seriousness Big Al and I penpal often. We talk about guitars, blues and my favorite idiots in the world (well just one know it all idiot in particular). BA is doing well keeping busy with the above mentioned. He also just played acoustic National Slide Guitar for a live broadcast with Shawkela Copeland ( the late John Copelands daughter) She is gonna be HUGE in the
Blues world BA tells me and I believe him!!!!! For those that don't know John Copeland (I didn't before BA edified me) Johnny Copeland was a major Black Blues guitar dude. His most famous
album was a joint effort with Robert Cray and Albert Collins. It's called "SHOWDOWN".

Even though Big Al is no longer with us his spirit is. Anytime anyone mentions P90s he is the first thing that pops in my mind.
