• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I love all the blues Kings. BB. Freddy. Albert.

And all the old guys like Muddy. Howlin' Wolf. Robert Johnson. Lightnin' Hopkins.

Love Jimi. Zep. Yardbirds.

Love ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

And other stuff like Koss and Sean Costello.

I 'specially love grunge.

Soundgarden on top of all. Alice in Chains. Pearl Jam.

Motorhead. Sabbath. Iggy Pop. Bowie.

And some country stuff too.

I just like to be liking good music.

But my favorite by far doesn't belong in any thang I just mentioned.

And I've listened to it more than any other record.

This was performed live on the spot in Austin Texas.

This kind of talent and entertainment with only a few exceptions...doesn't exist anymore.

Robert Cray - Strong Persuader.
Tom Petty - Damn the Torpedoes

There isn't a bad song on either of these.

But my desert island album is
Sticky Fingers

My all-time favorite is The Black Crowes, "Southern Harmony And Musical Companion". Although Marcus King"s ""Carolina Confessions" is running neck and neck for the top spot. Following very closely, Allman Brothers, "Eat A Peach", or "Live At Fillmore East", or Gov't Mule's "Dose", are favorites.

Abbey Road covers most of the spectrum for me.

Fleetwood Mac - Pious Bird of Good Omen
Rush - 2112 and Moving Pictures
Metallica - Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning

I am terrible at superlatives but the one album I promised I'd buy as soon as it came out on CD was YES' Close to the Edge. I did, and it turned out to be the Elvis live album in the CTTE jacket and marked as CTTE. At this point I've got the original Atlantic CD (terrible) and all of the subscription mastering jobs that have come out since. I guess I must be serious about that album.

But there are so many others.

I can’t boil it down to just one, so here are my favorites:

  • Led Zeppelin II
  • Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon
  • Sgt. Pepper (but how do you narrow the Beatles' brilliant output down to just one album?)
  • Derek & the Dominos' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
  • The Who's Who's Next
  • The Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed.
  • Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced?
  • The Pretenders' debut album
  • U2's debut album
  • Kate Bush's Hounds of Love
  • Tears For Fears' Songs from the Big Chair
  • Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and Porgy & Bess

If I were to be stranded somewhere the rest of my life with only one album to listen to, it would be Ritchie Blacmore’s Rainbow - Rising.

This is so easy for a classic rock guy like me, weaned on The Beatles, the "Summer of Love", George Martin, and 33-1/3 vinyl....VIVA 1967!

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. :teeth

Allman Brothers - At Fillmore East
Grateful Dead - Europe '72
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
Van Morrison - It's Too Late to Stop Now
John Mayall - Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton
Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits (1971)
Robert Johnson - The Complete Recordings (remastered)
The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

SOOOO many in so many styles...I have a Desert Island band list where I would take the catalogue of 10-12 different bands. But...let's give it a shot, and I'll pick one. This is probably based on the albums I always listen to every year multiple times.

In no particular order:

Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
T'Pau - T'Pau
REO Speedwagon - High Infidelity
Billy Squire - Don't Say No
KISS - Alive II
ABBA - Greatest Hits Vol II
Dirty Looks - Five Easy Pieces
Blondie - Eat To The Beat
Cheap Trick - Dream Police
Def Leppard - Hysteria
Journey - Escape
Roger Waters - Radio Kaos
Jamie O'Neal - Shiver

Man - I can't pick one of those! very one of those is nothing but start to finish awesome for me.

OK - KISS ALIVE II!!!

Impossible. But thinking about albums that really blew me away upon first listen, in the context of time:

Beano album
Stones - Exile on Main St
Black Crowes - Southern Harmony
Motorhead - 1916 (really anything)
GnR - Appetite
Led Zeppelin - 1 & Physical Graffiti
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
Beatles - Revolver & Abbey Road
Buckcherry - (1st album)
Social Distortion - (1st album)

My personal favorite is E.L.O. Out of the Blue, followed by some more E.L.O., Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons.
I asked Alan Parsons at a book signing, what the greatest album of all time is... he thought for a few seconds and said, "Who's Next".
