• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello my friends!!I have a doubt about the serial number of my guitar !! It is a LesPaul classic Reissue manufactured in the early 90s (Maybe exactly in 1990) My question is about the serial number because it is not engraved on the back of the headstock but engraved with a stamp or something and the number is well short SN 0566. Can someone help me to find out what is the exact information on the manufacture of my guitar? Thank you very much in advance ! Hugs to all!

The 1st digit indicates the year of manufacture for the 4 & 5 digit serial numbers, these were used from 1989-1999. The 1st and 2nd indicate the year of manufacture for the 6 digit serial numbers which we've been using since 2000.

Examples -
9 xxx = 1989 (4 digit number beginning with "9" used only in 1989)
0 xxxx = 1990
9 xxxx = 1999
00xxxx = 2000
05xxxx = 2005

Those beginning with "94":
In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, many instruments have a serial number that begins with "94" for the year, with the remaining 6 digits indicating the ranking number.

The another numbers means the number of guitars made during this year? Or isn't about it? Thanks friend
