• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I would like to see pics of your Les paul control cavities.

I think it would be good to have a chronicled list of what was orignal and/or what you have changed and why.

Please list year, and model

Like mine is a 2010 LP R7 CAB

as others on here have indicated not original.

Thanks

Before 2003. 500K (I think) with ceramic discs.
2003 - 2008. 500K linear taper pots, fake Bumblebee caps, modern wiring.
2009 - 2018. 500K audio taper pots, fake Bees, 50s wiring.
2019 - present. 500K audio taper, PIO caps, 50s wiring.

Some people automatically change them out because they feel the stock parts are crap, others want PIO caps, others want better pot tapers.

out of curiosity. as the previous owner of my Lp swapped out the controls. and I like tinkering. Also, If /when I get another one that has been altered would like to know what was original.

Doesn't look as though they are does it.
Some say the pio caps make a difference tonewise and others say they don't.........I go with pio(and these are cheaper russian ones usually) because that's what was used in the '50s, personally I haven't noticed a difference in tone with mylar discs etc.

I agree I think as long as the values are the same the sound should be the same. However because I just like the idea/ looks of PIO caps I cleaned up the last job and put some Bee looking emerson PIO caps. .022uf and .015uf.:)

Here is my 40th Ann aged and painted Murphy R9 lefty
Has been fitted with nos bees at 0.018uF which allows the lower range of tone control without mud.
Modern wiring with the added mojo of Black Rose Custom mod.
Vol pots are ( šŸ˜±) 300k Lin and tone pots 500k Log ... why ? because it sounds great with these values and tapers and tho the Black Rose is electrically identical to other schemes I thought I could hear a difference!!
