• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Thoughts on this recent gutted Les Paul pickup?

My dad just picked it up cheap. Seems like it could be either a 2001 or 2006, possibly a standard? We're going to try to put it back together but I have a couple of quick questions.

1. From the pics is it possible to tell if it was a real Gibson (before they ruined it)?
2. Will it be too much effort to do anything about the paint job? Luckily they didn't touch the front and back of the headstock but it seems like other parts were sanded for some reason, I dunno if it should be painted black or just left as is. Maybe I should just leave it because I'll probably not be playing it on stage ever.

Looks like a fake to me. The pot hole closest to the tailpiece hole looks like it is further towards the bottom (base) of the guitar than it should be.

Other then the issues (quite a few) that have already been mentioned, The body shape is just wrong and the horn way wrong (too pointy). Sorry to say that is a "Chibson". No it's not a Gibson, but it could be a good project for learning how to resurrect a stripped guitar Carcass.

Have fun.
