• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Thoughts on this recent gutted Les Paul pickup?

My dad just picked it up cheap. Seems like it could be either a 2001 or 2006, possibly a standard? We're going to try to put it back together but I have a couple of quick questions.

1. From the pics is it possible to tell if it was a real Gibson (before they ruined it)?
2. Will it be too much effort to do anything about the paint job? Luckily they didn't touch the front and back of the headstock but it seems like other parts were sanded for some reason, I dunno if it should be painted black or just left as is. Maybe I should just leave it because I'll probably not be playing it on stage ever.

Looks fake to me. Better pics of headstock front and back could help. neck pickup cavity.

The Logo looks too white'n Bright.
The serial etc looks wrong
The control panels are unpainted
The control panels are foils
Les Paul Signature looks wrong

That looks like a forgery to me. ANd not a very good one at that.

Hope he got it super cheap - like others said, I don't think that's a genuine Gibson.
But that said, if it's a decent peice of wood, it's up for anything you can think of -
paint it, or just respray some lacquer, go to town on the electronics, etc.
Not Gibson, but it could turn out to be a cool guitar.

Yeahhhhhh, turns out it's fake for sure lol.

It was sitting next to my Les Paul Studio and I could clearly see the difference in the headstock shape/logo.
