Hey all! I recently posted a thread asking about possible effect of resonance and sustain on a guitar with swirled grain. I showed pics of a guitar that Gibson was offering to send to me as a replacement to another I had bought earlier this year, but sent in for warranty work and, eventually a replacement (long story).
Anyway, this past week I received this from Gibson to evaluate vs the one I already had and this is a keeper. Details to follow:
....and a little bit of light to see that flame!
I gave them some guidelines for what I look for in a guitar and they picked a real winner. It's a svelte 8 lbs 3ish ounces, is extremely resonant and has great sustain (high note bends sustain so well, which I was hoping for in particular), and it has killer sound. It's one of those LP's with the very sparkly, open and airy sound that goes great with cleans and overdriven tones alike. It has a nice bottom end but is still bright (in a great way) and chords have so much depth to them. Definitely next level stuff here.
The neck is a nice .885 at the 1st and .987 at the 12th. The color isn't the same as the Deep Cherry Sunbursts that Gibson started this line out with. I was able to compare next to the one they were replacing and it's definitely different. I contacted Gibson and they insist it's a V1 Deep Cherry Sunburst also. I saw another one just like it at Sweetwater, so I guess either they changed them or did this new thing for a bit....I don't know, but I'm really digging the slight nod toward a dark burst, perhaps?
So yeah, hope you like it!
