• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

no doubt that 2001 had some great guitars. I owned 3 R8's ( 2 were Custom Authentics), 2 R7's and a R6 Custom Authentic. Most were pretty good and a few were...well not good(wood!). But this Good Wood Era thing has gotten silly.
A guy who owns a '94 or '97 claims to have a GWE guitar....as does the owner from '99, 2000, '02 etc. When do the bad wood guitars start? 2003?...2005?
Ive seen ads for '01 R8's/R9's in the (ridiculous asking price) $5k-$10k range, with the main selling point of "Good Wood". Yeah, thing has taken on a life of its own.

Everyone has their preference. As far as sound, playability and weight are concerned, 2013 and above Historic models are it. :salude
