• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

2001 LPS needs help

Purchased a 2001 LPS little over a year ago. It didn't feel/sound right, had some work done.
Bone nut installed, frets lowered, vintage pups w/covers, wiring harness and pup selector installed.
Guitar sounds very nice, stays in tune but there are dead spots on the fret board
on certain strings.
Luthier who did the work is a Tele specialist but works on all guitars, nice fellow and does nice work.
But I would like to have a Les Paul aficionado/luthier evaluate it and get it right.

Anyone have a recommendation for some one in NYC/metro area that is a cut above?
Not just a name shop where I drop it off with a tech/rock star wanna be to put it in a pile with all the other work
but an individual that is a master at his(her) craft and is willing to spend a few minutes with me discussing the issue.

Thanks

Dead spots are hard to resolve. It is not a setup issue, it is how that instrument resonates. The only solution I have ever found was to mess with the metal parts: stop tail, ABR metal, ABR post length. You can’t change the wood, but you can change how the strings interact with the wood.
Personally I had good results changing the ABR post for long brass ones. It is easy to do and transformed my guitar. Longer posts make for more contact surface, more vibration transfer. It seemed to help even things out a bit, improved sustain and loudness.

My $0.02!

Gringo,
Thanks for the tip.
I purchased a Martin acoustic from them in 1998. Thought they had closed up shop.
Just visited their web site and it seems promising. Looking into it. Tx:hank

Dropped my LP Std off at Umanov's the other day.
Cautiously optimistic.
