This guitar was purchased in very early 1969, played very little and then stored for over 50 years!

The only thing wrong is the tuners were swapped out when with Grover's because they were popular at the time.

I have a set of 1969 Gibson Deluxe Double Line Double Ring Tuners on the way!

Here are some of the things I've verified to prove it's provenance;

Fat Heel Joint with little to no ledge
Pot Codes are CTS 1968 Week 52
Swimming Pool Route with Neck Tenon showing dates to Very Early 1969 and possibly 1968
No Dot Over the i in Gibson
Patent Number Pickups
Nylon Saddles on the Bridge
And Finally the Serial Number verifies as Early 1969.

I think this is a January or February 1969 guitar...

On to the pics!

Just need to add a stop tail piece, some DiMarzios, couple of switches and you'll be set, no, no, no, don't do any of that. Very nice!

Oh so luscious and delicious and so very BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!! My goodness you have found a treasure for sure ! I absolutely love it ! For whatever it's worth I would keep her as is including the Patent sticker T-Tops pickups , I did read that you have the double ring Klusons which will be period correct , but after having Groovers installed there will be the tell tale marks on the back of the headstock . Something to think about ? Once again my compliments on such a fine Vintage Guitar day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my 69 sg standard was already grovered as well ..no way would I change it back to klusons ..like mentioned you’ll most likely have telltale washer impressions in the headstock face ..I think grovers work well on Sg’s.

Thanks everyone! I was blown away at how clean this thing is.

I did get a set of vintage Kluson's, but I think I'll leave the Grover's on for now.

Just wish I would heal up from surgery so I can play the damn thing!

Super nice condition and a great guitar to boot. I'd leave the Grovers as-is myself since they are already on there. If they cause neck dive though would probably change them.

I agree if it causes neck dive I would swap them ..fortunately mine weighs over 8 pounds and balances perfect

Waiting for the rotator cuff surgery to heal up so I can play this beauty! Then I'll decide which tuners to use...

The wait is killing me!

WOW! Stunning!

I had a '68 "almost" that clean back in the mid 70's until one very cold night it checked the finish so bad it started flaking off. Especially the headstock inlaid areas. BE CAREFUL!

Mine had Klusons, which I loved. But yes, I miss that guitar. Played the frets off of it. Had to sell it when I needed food. My first Gibson. :dang

Congrats! Take good care of her. :salude

Congratulations! I’ve had vintage Gibson’s through different decades and I’m totally cool with any year from the 60s. The slight changes after ‘65 that many people wring their hands over are nothing. That decade is all good.
Nice guitar! Enjoy!!
