Any forum members into old trucks? I recently bought a 1968 GMC 3/4 ton pickup: 2wd, 350 motor, 350 or 400 turbo transmission (need to crawl under it and see) with a 4.11 rear end. Decent shape and runs. I have always loved old trucks but never could find one I could afford. This one literally fell into my possession. Long story short, it was my ex BILs truck who died of cancer 10 years ago. I'm honored to own it now and planning to start getting it mechanically straight, then redo the body. Lots of great memories of this truck. I'll try to post pics too. Edit: got some pics added, but can never seem to get Flickr to just get them to show... just always a link?!

Guitar Whiskey, thank you for reply and link. I have been around this truck for +30 years, it will be a very enjoyable restoration. After some more research... 1) it is a 400 turbo transmission, 2) the motor is not original to truck. Its a 350 casted on May 26th, 1975 in Flint, Michigan.

My father had a similar '72 GMC when I was a kid. Long bed, 3/4 ton, 2wd, 350 auto. It was owned by his grandfather's construction company and they gave it to him when he ventured out on his own to start a framing business.

He replaced it with a new '78 GMC 4x4, long bed, 350 auto. He needed 4wd to get his trailer out of muddy construction sites. The '78 was replaced by a new '88 Chevy 2500 4x4 that he eventually handed down to my son when he got his license. These two trucks had plows on them for our 150 foot long driveway.

I used to love driving these trucks around town. Everyone knew my father and they'd wave and ask if I was Don's son.

These trucks were tools, but were also almost members of the family.

Oddly, I've never owned a truck.

I restored 2. Sold both. If I did another ,i`d look for an old mid 50`s GMC. Don, they are definitely tools AND part of the family!! My friend had a '72 Chevy with a 402 4 bolt main big block and a 400 turbo transmission behind it. Robert, thank you, I love it! Brings back lots of great memories, and a few bitter sweet ones. GP, nice trucks. If I could have a dream truck in mint condition... it would be a '56 Ford F100!! \m/

This is the first truck that I remember my father having (the fleetside). It was a company truck and back then they used a very basic truck.
