I’ve been having some issues with an original set of 1960s kluson deluxe line tuners. They’re the original set that come on a 1965 Epiphone Casino ES230TD. So they’re no newer than 65. I’m accustomed to tightening Milk bottle grovers and cleaning/working on open back tuners, but I have never worked on tuners like this. I’m guessing I have to remove the back covers to get to the gears but I’m unsure how to do so. They have this issue where they get stuck and rotate slowly. On some, such as the G tuner, they rotate about 1/2-3/4 of the way just fine, and then the remainder of the rotation becomes extremely hard to turn. Others, such as the high E tuner are impossibly hard to turn, even without any tension.
I figured I would find lots of into on a topic like this, but after 30+ min on other forums and YouTube I’ve come up empty handed. Any help or instruction would be greatly appreciated!
All the best.
