• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

This is a very interesting guitar. It is a 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard that was said to be purchased by Schecter Guitar Research in 1978 to use a test bed for their aftermarket pickups and parts. It has vintage Schecter Super Rock pickups, a Schecter chrome plated brass bridge, and aftermarket Grover tuners that Schecter also sold at the time. Looking at pictures of the 1979 Schecter guitar parts catalog this appears to be the guitar used for the pictures. Please look at the last two pictures in the gallery. If you look at the end of the fretboard at the upper frets, the rosewood has the same distinct streaking as the guitar in the catalog. The story continues that this guitar was on display in Schecters offices and when Schecter was in financial distress in the early 1980's, an employee took this guitar as payment for back pay he was owed.

As for the guitar itself, it is a great playing Norlin example. Weighing 10lbs 6oz it is not too heavy and the frets show hardly any wear and are original as evidenced by the intact fret nibs. No breaks or repairs. The vintage Schecter Super Rock pickups sound great. Not sure how much of the control cavity is original as the electronics have been modified as part of Schecters modifications. A great playing example with a cool history to boot!

Please look carefully at all the provided photos and ask any questions you may have .
