Anomalies exist in 3X5's too. My lefty ES-345 is from 1964 and the ears are more like MM ears, less pointy than reissues.

From what I see these 2020's look amazing , I really like my ES 345 Memphis I'm done playing the currant spec game . One other thing love the Memphis pickups on my 2014 !
Ive never confused owning a bunch of high end gear with being some kind of a guitar player I'm a hack and I love guitars !

The myth :The most disturbing thing about buying a fake Les Paul is how my research after the purchase is received by Forum members ??? 2020

The Myth: Neat wiring layouts always equate to great-sounding amps.

The Myth: If I would have lived with MOM & mooched till I was 48 I would play like Clapton !
    Think about it
    won't you ...... Please !

I think they look very close, but the photos donít do it justice. I feel I need to see one in hand again to compare side by side.
the link doesnít go to that anymore ..sold ? ..also, is Gibson still building & shipping ?

That is beautiful, play that rare beast in good health! Yes, the Ď64 from Wildwood sold the following morning. Gibson is closed until further notice according to what a couple dealers have told me.

When the shutdown happened a recent former worker commented that the Nashville plant keeps a ****load of inventory before shipping out, not sure if that applies to the custom shop though.

Peach got a cherry that sold, and they have a Sunburst left now with a demo as well.

Very nice tone from that demo.

I am not sold that this '64 RI is any better than previous reissues. But that is jmho.

The Custom Buckers sound very nice in this demo, though.

    Re: 2020 64 reissue ES 335's..

From what i can see in those pics the contours arent even as accurate as they were on the Memphis models. Horn blisters are less pronounced and the 'dishing/arching' of the top between the pickups and around the outside of the top is way less pronounced. I dont know what 64 model they 'scanned' for accuracy, but from what I have seen now on the first pictures are disappointing. After years of measuring and scanning and lasering blah blah, they havent lived up to their own hype yet.. I'm hopeful we will be able to get some updates from the Custom Shop folks who are making them and learn the facts..Either way, it looks like the only way i'm gonna get the real deal is to pay the doe and get a proper vintage one..sigh..

Agree...that light brown fingerboard is just plain ugly. For that kind of money you expect much better.

For the past few years it seems Gibson has procured light brown, Grade B rosewood, not only for the USA line, but also the Custom Shop guitars.

It is possible to reserve a 2020 ES 3X5 at some dealers using a non-refundable deposit. Your credit card company may or may not be able to protect you should the dealer go belly up due to the Coronavirus shutdown. Stick to dealers that you trust.

Wow. The prices have certainly gone up. I bought my Freddie King 345 at the same place for about 4 grand just 2 1/2 years ago. Moving close to Collings territory.

Elliot ..have you checked out one in person ..if so, I’m sure it was a right handed but what did you think of Gibson’s scan of an original ‘64. ( btw, you going for cherry, sunburst or a custom pelham )

    Re: 2020 64 reissue ES 335's..

Well some good news! I was able to sift thru tons of videos from the Namm show and found this one which actually shows in detail the new 59, 61 and 64 reissues that have been redone. Happy to report that it does indeed look like these are the closest reissues to the originals yet. In another vid from Namm the Gibson tech explains and finally get to hear the story about how they had to resculpt the original templates they had used for decades as they has worn down and were no longer accurate to the originals. This sure explains why they looked so.. flat.. In this clip you can actually see the reduced neck joint angle, the restored topography and while not as exaggerated as some vintage ones, its the closest yet.. and it also shows that they did indeed study the old vs the new and make a concerted effort to make them like they used to again. Note how in the clip the Gibson tech states that when you are holding one of these new 335's you are holding as close to the vintage ones as you can get..

Having heard this for so many decades with each new release I had prettymuch accepted that they would never really do an accurate reissue... and I thought the same again as the first pics came out. No close ups and no comparisons all seemed like another empty promise from them... This plus a total lack of any advertising bragging about its rebirth was lacking.
I happily stand corrected and will now be ordering one for myself. Still want to know if its a MTM thing because I would like the 61 dot slim neck profile on a 64 block model. If not I'll just get the 61 dot..

Watch this vid from 2:45 to see them and hear the story. And last buit not least, apologies to the LPF for prejudging.. but also, Gibson, please release the story with pics of old and new so all can see and compare.

Gary there are a few other vids which have glimpses of the 64 but the body presses they used were re-sculpted and appear to be the same for the CS Historic 59, 61 and 64's.. The main difference being the necks..and the horns on the 64 are a bit more pointy..

Heres another clip with more closeups of the 64.. This Gibson guy knows his stuff more than the guy with the Gibson tshirt..

I would be interested in the neck angles on these new reissues, cause all Memphis ES3x5s i had were with too high unaccurate neck angle.

Thanks for posting melodyman................answers a lot of questions that I didn't have an answer to previously
Those sunburst 335s with the redish burgundy surround are just too good, might have to look at a fat necked '59........who knows
None of the stores in the US have any of these in stock as yet from what I can see.
