Did Gibson start doing three piece tops on Les Paul’s in the late 1960’s?

Are asking solely on Norlin (68 or 69)? Because, and I am no expert, but 50’s Goldtops had three piece tops. No need for book matched pretty flamed maple when covered in gold. I have a 52. No desire to strip it. But I believe especially that early multiple tops were not a concern.
