• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi guys, this is my first post on the forum
I had about 20 Les Paul over the years, mostly Custom Shop R8 and R9 flame top and my favorite one is this R9, it weight exactly 8 pounds
It's also the first time I had one where the flame change in such way in different angles, usually the flame tend to almost disappear in some angle or simply become less intense, but for that guitar, the flame top is very 3D and intense in some angle but become kind of fuzzy and irregular in other angles, don't know how to explain so here's some photos, anyone have the same effect with their guitar?

They all seem to be like that to some degree, depending on the angle and how the light catches it.

Here’s my R8 going from plain to flame:

That’s my point, i had a bunch of guitars where the flame seem to disappear in some angle, but on that R9, it don’t disappear, it just get very fuzzy in some angle, but it’s stay visible in any angle, just a total different shape, one look very 3D and and in other angle it just look messy.

nice guitar by the way 👍🏻

Here's my 2000 59RI and late 1990s Vox AC-15, photographed with and without flash. Flame Off:

Nature of the beast. I've had two R9's. One a 2013, which had pin stripe or fiddle back type flame. From one angle, it appeared very tight and uniform, from the other side, wavy. My current R9, which is a 2019 60th Anniversary does not photograph well with either my Samsung A8 or a old Canon point and shoo that I've got. Just can't seem to capture the nuances of the grain. There are some tops, that from which ever angle, seem amazing. There's a pile on Mark's Guitar Loft web site. Literally everyone of them is a five star top, from every angle. It's a mystery. Frankly, I love how the tops play with us!
