As far as I know, the EMG's were installed at the factory.

Does anyone have any info on this?

I have never heard of EMG's being installed on any factory Les Paul ever unless it is like a Zakk Wylde Custom or some other special one off I can't even think of. I love EMG's in my LP Standard and I'd recommend swapping those 81/85 for the 66/57 set in chrome.
