The seller may be communicating the purchase was in 2002, not realizing the year of production was 2000.

Case looks OK for 2000. Some had Liftons, those with higher (later) serial numbers. I am not certain of transition, if those bound for different markets e.g. Japan had different cases. Which case came with which guitar has often been a head-scratcher, especially given dealers would mix them in those days, and sometimes buyers weren't on top of as demanding of "the full package"...

More importantly COA and case candy consistent with 2000, and inked serial number looks legit to me. This is the year I first started following Reissues, but didn't take the plunge until 2003 so others may have more specific memory on this...

Hope this helps :salude

...BTW amber knobs were also OK for these earlier spec R9s. Model coding varies, but refers to Heritage Sunburst (washed cherry) finish with Nickel Hardware.

FWIW these pics are rather dark and low res. I would ask seller for more, better to include cavity shots, better color, closer looks at the binding including around the cutaway, etc. for peace of mind.

2000's didn't have a coa. At least not in the States. Everything I see looks right for 2000. Best case Gibson ever used, IMO! My favourite Les Paul among 4 Historics and 8 others I own, is the R9 I bought in May 2000 from the HOG.

Nicknamed 'Tupeolo Honey' for the color and tone, 9 0503 has been my go to Les Paul, recorded and toured heavily, Tupeolo Honey has been gigged hard, and looks it.

I am a HUGE!!! 99/00 40th Anniversary R9 fan. Big upgrades and spec changes in '99 make 99/00 R9s historically important and I very much find the unique feel and specs as well as playability and tone suit me perfectly. Though far from a perfect clone of 59 and not as accurate as later issues, I prefer them as players. IMO, the important stuff is there, especially the neck profile. I prefer a 2000 to a 2002.

They are out there, I've seen them... I am not clear on which markets got what.

Glad to hear about Tupelo Honey. 99-01 are interesting years... and NOT just for Custom/Art/Historic.
- My 00 Classic is of top notch quality, and apart from the snotty inlays the wood is super resonant, on par with Reissues.
- My 00 59 Dot Reissue ES-335 is killer, too. Amazing neck, great player, sweet figuring in natural, seriously good pickups. OK, not perfectly historic shape but I love it.

Almost 20 years in apart from my house, my longest kept possessions of worth. :jim:salude

so this one is a 40th anniversary R9??

I believe this applies only to certain 99 R9s [maybe leaked into 200], particularly Murphy-aged ones, and Al was speaking broadly about specs and quality of the era. :salude

Those were Murphy Aged run for Vintage World. It is the 40th Ann. and the specs, other than Murphy Ageing, are the same those two years only. I just have a bad habit of calling them all 40th Anniversary.

When I bought mine I called Gibson, to get my coa and was told no coa for 2000. Same story when I asked in person at the factory in 2003.

My 2000 Yamano R9 has a COA. It came with two cases a black historic and a Lifton.
