• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Real close to the end of their exhausting 2nd US tour--the one where the majority of the 'Live' Cream' recordings were done in March [SF] & when Clapton bought his Firebird in April [Philadelphia]. This is a great picture!

Cool photo!

It looks like it’s about 95 degrees inside that room.

I saw many concerts at the old Grande and Eastown theaters in Detroit. Yes...in the summer, it was absolutely oppressive there. No AC. These were grand old movie theaters from the 30s that had been out of business for a long time and were "restored" for rock concerts in the late 60s. I saw Cream later that year at Olympia, which was where the Redwings played back then. Clapton was still using the Firebird. What was really memorable was some asshole jumping the stage and swiping Clapton's wah wah just before the show began. Welcome to Detroit muthafukas! :dang

Anyone who steals anything sucks--and actually, in the end, they`re the 'muthafukr'. Here`s a great picture of Zeppelin performing at the same venue as Cream--the Grande Ballroom in Detroit--about a year later--mid May 1969. Another great picture and Jimmy Page is still with his Telecaster.

Absolutely Cliff Gress!

Most of the best concerts I ever saw were in one or the other of those two venues. Ones that come to mind include

- Humble Pie with Frampton (twice!)
- Mountain (original band with West, Laing, Pappalaridi...saw them two or three times)
- Savoy Brown (both early (Lonesome Dave) and later versions of the band. Loved the Simonds + Chickenshack version in particular!)
- The Who
- Jethro Tull (2nd version with Martin Barre, just when Stand Up came out)

Any venue where Cream played in their short existence was a GREAT venue AFAC. Winterland, Fillmore Auditorium, Electric Factory, Whisky a Go Go, Cafe Au Go Go, Marque Club, Selland Arena, Staples High School in CT, Hunter College, et al!!!
