• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Yeah, it wasn't hard to see this one coming. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did.

Incredible drummer. As a human being, though.......

I only saw him play once, and that was by the skin of his teeth. It was 1988 at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Ca. Notes from the show:

“Ginger was completely inebriated, in some fashion, and was really late coming onstage.
When he did come onstage, he stumbled and fell forward onto his drum kit, and, proceeded to take it all down off the drum stand in a tumble onto the lower portion of the stage.
So, the B.U.T. tech had to come out, take all the mics, stands, and cables off the kit, reset the kit, re-mic it, and sound check it, then the concert began,... probably two hours late”.

I recall being simultaneously amazed that he pulled it off at all, showing occasional pure brilliance, and being disappointed none the less to see a fraction of what he had.

That was a long time ago and I hope he had a happy and peaceful life in his later years. RIP

Quite possibly the greatest drummer of the 20th Century. A massive talent.

One of the most miserably disgusting human beings. A lousey spouse and selfish, unloving, absent parent. A paradiddle paradox with red hair.

I think all his love and passion, his drive and fury, tenderness, joy and life went into percussion and whatever was left to polo. I've never seen his equal and I'm still in awe of his musicality. Maybe he can now continue with harmony instead of acrimony with the other giant and fellow virtuoso visionary, Wee Jack in whatever hereafter awaits.

80 years old. Perhaps a little too soon and nobody will replace him. Sad Indeed.

At the age of 4, Ginger`s father left to serve in WW2 & never came back [died] and that affected him deeply. Very sad for anyone. Also very sad he soiled his reputation as a person.

Ginger on 'vocals'--backed by Eric & Jack

"Pressed Rat and Warthog closed down their shop.
They didn't want to; 'twas all they had got.
Selling atonal apples, amplified heat,
And Pressed Rat's collection of doglegs and feet.

"Sadly, they left, telling no one goodbye.
Pressed Rat wore red jodhpurs, Warthog a striped tie.
Between them, they carried a three-legged sack,
Went straight round the corner and never came back.

"Pressed Rat and Warthog closed down their shop.
The bad captain madman had told them to stop
Selling atonal apples, amplified heat,
And Pressed Rat's collection of doglegs and feet.

"The bad captain madman had ordered their fate.
He laughed and stomped off with a nautical gate.
The gate turned into a deroga tree
And his peg leg got woodworm and broke into three.

"Pressed Rat and Warthog closed down their shop.
They didn't want to; 'twas all they had got.
Selling atonal apples, amplified heat,
And Pressed Rat's collection of doglegs and feet."

I've always believed this tune was a veiled shot at Clapton. Jack had once noted that they'd all had nicknames and that Eric's was Captain Madman. Coincidence?
