• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Amp and/or pedal Suggestions?

Hi Everyone, I'm an electric guitar newbie and new to this forum (been playing acoustic for around 7 months). I'm in the phase of figuring out what I want right now in terms of a guitar, amp, pedals, etc. It's more realistic for me to have one high quality catch-all electric than buying multiple, doing upgrades etc....so with that in mind, I'm looking at the 2019 Les Paul Classic.

If I were to buy this guitar, do you have any suggestions for amps that the LP classic will sound best in? I've heard Marshall is great for them. It needs to be suitable for the living room (don't wanna blow my wife's eardrums out, etc.). Below are some tones that I really like:

Perth by Bon Iver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIluBvQ77Bk

Track 6/E-Bow by Sigur Ros (he is bowing the guitar, at around 3:53 you can hear the guitar more): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN2__sAvYlc&list=PLV9mvjAkGP7Q8HbvfaLONLUxJqLxoKCWc&index=6

In Bloom by Nirvana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-LDY0hr3Z4

Thanks everyone :)

Listening to the clips, there was clean, crunch, fuzzy, to "angry Marshall."

So, to do them at "living room friendly" levels, and not buy a lot of expensive gear, I'd go with a Boss Katana KTN-50 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier to start. They get great reviews, have lots of built-in effects to dial in those tones, and you can take it home for less than $250.

That should allow you to do everything you're trying to do with your LP Classic, and would even be suitable for small room gigs if you join a band.:hank
