It’s there. Check other videos of the MTV special and it’s plain as day.

The Vox also adds some needed high end with Page’s tone. I’m fairly well versed with that era Vibro King, having played the early el84 reverb tube with Emi Blue frames, the 6V6 reverb tube revision with Emi’s and finally the 6V6 reverb tube with Jensen reissues, all in in band situations. Good sounding amps, but a little dark in the top end. To my ears Zinky wanted some Marshall flavor in his Fender designs (as opposed to narrow panel Tweeds) and apart from the Dual Pro all his custom shop amps are kind of dark.

Again, good sounding amps and I really like the idea of putting the reverb before the pre, but ime either the Super Reverb or Tweed Bassman are overall better sounding mousetraps.

Thanks for your insights. I figured he was using the Vox in other songs, I just wasn't hearing it in the video I posted of SIBLY, though I had been wondering if he was using an effect to brighten his tone or if he had the bass and mids turned down on the VK.

Page appears to like his LP's on the brighter side of the spectrum, so that's another part of the equation.

    Definitely a Kemper...

    Tone To The Bone!
    LP=[(CC*8)+(Sig*5)+(R9*2)+R8+R7+R6+(R4*2)+(50sT*2)+Stu D+LPX]+[(EpI*19)+(EsP/Ed*6)+(ToKi*3)+(Ba*3)+(Fe/Bu*2)+(ObG)+(CMS)]

For me, it would be a 1960s KT-66 based Marshall - whether Clapton's 1962 combo from Bluesbreakers, Peter Green's JTM 45 on The Supernatural, or the JTM45/100 from Fresh Cream.

For my favorite LP tones I like to use my JTM45 head paired with my 4X4 cab loaded with Celestion alnico speakers, my Fender blackface Twin and Vibrolux Reverb combos with Jensens or my Carr Rambler with it's Kingtone speaker.

Ive never confused owning a bunch of high end gear with being some kind of a guitar player I'm a hack and I love guitars !

The myth :The most disturbing thing about buying a fake Les Paul is how my research after the purchase is received by Forum members ??? 2020

The Myth: Neat wiring layouts always equate to great-sounding amps.

The Myth: If I would have lived with MOM & mooched till I was 48 I would play like Clapton !
    Think about it
    won't you ...... Please !

in my opinion the early metal panel marshalls are monsters and i have one in particular that is a 71 100 watt super lead it hands down would be my pick to go with a burst. its explosive. a high power twin would be next in line.
of course you may have to pile blankets over the amp or something so you dont kill birds flying by.
i dont have my jam room set up yet so i use pedals with the big iron. dang it.

i,m withya corpse.the best fender amp i have ever heard was an early brown deluxe out of the closet with a bluebell speaker. after the crackling and pot twisting it was hands down the best fender amp i have ever heard. for real. once it warmed up the crackling stopped.thats why i dont panic and call a tech. the amp was majic.

    Damn you Mr. Glover.

I have been trying to play this for a few years now.

    And taunting my neighbors.

I can't play it nohow like you for damn sure.

But I wish I could sing it.

I just can't make out the vox.

    I am at the point.

That I'll beg for you to post the Hobo lyrics.

I'll even do PayPal for 'em.

Sell my kids to the government.

    For scientific experiments.

    Just please!

    Gimme' the lyrics.

    Because.

This fucking rocks harder than chinese arithmetic.

Re: Best amp for the best burst tone

Isn't a matter of preference? It seems like you should clarify exactly what you are looking for in terms of tone. I have been in a Mike Bloomfield - Super Sessions kick and I find that my '13 LP Standard through a Fender Deluxe does the job. I was going for a Twin, but was put off by the weight of it and expense. The Deluxe doesn't pack exactly the same punch, but it is, nonetheless, very good, easy to trasnport and was significantly less expensive.

I am planning to get a Marshall Combo as I have always loved the Clapton Beano sound. Then again the Vox AC 30 offers something the others don't. I do not want to spend tons of cash on boutique amps, so off the GC floor is fine for me. I gig in small venues and haven't had to crank the Deluxe above 4 (horn band)

Once you are settled on what sound you are looking for, it should be an easy decision. Page did LZ 1 with a Tele and a Supro.
