• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Help me figure out what this is!

All - looking for some help here. A good friend of mine who I did a solid favor for a while back is giving me his hardly used Les Paul. I'm freaking out. I've played the same MIM Strat for 10+ years, and this will be my second guitar. It's arriving this Thursday, but curious to see if anyone is able to help me identify the make / model based on this picture. I know it's at least three years old, probably closer to 10 years old, and unlikely more than 20 years old. It's seem some neglect, but looks to be in decent enough shape.

I'll share more details when I have this beautiful shredstick on hand, but please let me know if you have any insights based on the pic!

Just contact Gibson and ask them. They will need to see pics including one of the serial.

Manufacturers are always the best people to contact for questions about identification of a guitar.

This -- also assuming the case is original, looks like it is of the 2003-2005 Premium Plus variety... probably has the "50s neck" :salude

You don't know who made it? :hmm
I guess that means it doesn't say Gibson on the headstock. :wah

More and better photos are needed. :)

That would be my guess, although I think some of the Premium tops came with 60's profile neck?

Just by the one pic I would narrow the range down to 2003-2008 era. Nashville bridge, appears to have nickel tarnish on the hardware and pickup covers. Hard to tell, but it kind of looks like a narrow headstock.

A serial number would help.

I'll take a stab at it:biggrin: But first have you checked out the serial number?

Good tell tale sign is the pick guard if there is a hole on the body and the guard tucked away inside the case available for install.

My 2005 Standard Ice Tea did not have any holes drilled from the factory but included the p/g just in case you wanted down the road to be installed then you would have to drill or have a guitar tech do that.

Just for comparison:##

All, it arrived yesterday. Serial# 00662618. I called Gibson. It's a 2002 Standard in Desert Burst, made in the Nashville plant. It has:

  • The 50's neck
  • AA maple flame top
  • Burstbucker pros
  • Nickel hardware

It has a pickguard in the case, but isn't drilled for it. Might throw it on there. Thoughts?

That's all the detail they had. I strung it up and plugged it into my Vox AC15. It sounds amazing. Needs a pro setup (I don't dare touch the truss rod on this one), but otherwise in great shape. Thanks for all of your help!
