So I bought this Gibson Les Paul Custom for a good price at a local shop. It costed me $1500. There is a really old headstock repair that I can't really see, the pickups are changed to Throw Back models and the bridge and tailpiece are changed. The tuners were changed at one time but the old ones are back on.

I believe it is an early 70s model and it has a tiny volute and a thinner neck that is really, really comfortable to play. Also has non nib refret and came with a G&G case.

It sounds and plays really nice. I'm pretty happy with it but want to maybe change the pickups.

Thanks man. Just wondering if anyone has any info on these. It's also really light. I would have expected it to be heavier.

Here is the control cavity.

Yeah am pretty sure a brother with the best knowledge and time will be chiming in on this model specially if they have it in their collection to answer some if most of your question.

You can always do a search as well here within the forum and you would be amazed how many topics of discussion within the Norlin era Paul's.:jim

That is a Kalamazoo Custom, no doubt. Few original parts left. I would check the tuner post holes as I suspect it had been fitted with them and later had the waffle backs returned/added. Judging by the work, I'd want to make sure the post holes were done correctly anf fix the tuner mounting.

The headstock repair appears solid but not hard to see. What is lacking in the pickups performance and what is it you hope to gain/change with new pickups? How do you know they are ThoBaks and do you know which model?

A pro refret with larger frets is a good thing on these "Fretless Wonders" , IMO, and I always fret over the binding, personally having no use or love for nibs.

You just have to wonder how many gigs, how many songs and what stories that guitar could tell. How many more you'll offer it. Cool axe, brother!

I Prefer a Black Beauty with some miles on it. Don’t trust those ‘pretty’ ones.

At $1500 you've done very well! How much of the neck was refinished - if any of it?
What is the nut made of? In some pictures it looks plastic but in one picture it looks like it might be brass.
Big Al is correct about the parts and the idea of a re-fret.

Tell us about the Soldano and the Marshall 4x12 it's sitting on!

Nice. And a nice place and company for it too. Looks like some guys could jam there with a few drinks and be very happy indeed. :)
