• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I’m looking at a 2018 Les Paul traditional in tobacco burst..... but it’s not the perimeter burst they say was offered in tobacco burst on the website. Was this a special run? Guitar center special? It’s got a light wood grain back also.

looks like this one.
Thanks

That’s not a 2018, it’s a 2019 Traditional. While the light back and non-perimeter finish are definitely indicators it’s not a 2018, the serial number you can see on the headstock is a dead giveaway. ;)

I've noticed that the vintage finishes are typical pear shaded or teardrop burst. The modern types employed the edge shaded or perimeter burst.

Cherryburst - pear, Lightburst - perimeter.

Tobaccoburst - pear. Desertburst - perimeter.

Desertburst is not Tobaccoburst. Tobacco has the pear shape and walnut/brown back. Desert is perimeter and ebony/black back. The shade/tint/hue/color of dark brown are different between the two.

2019 for sure - produced in late 2018 as a 2019. It has the 1900 start to the serial number. Around the intro of the new line up Gibson reverted to the YdddY#### serial number system. AFAIK the Traditional name was retired at that time.
