• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What are the differences between a 2010 and 2014 Historic R7 Goldtop?

I have a Lemonburst 14 so I know the 14 features. Don't know much about 2010's. Is there a difference in fret size between the two? I'm try to decide between 2 goldtops. The 2014 is $350 more.

2014 is more historically accurate, with hot hide glue on fretboard and maple top, some other small details and Custom Buckers vs Burstbuckers on 2010. I would prefer 2014, these are really very consistent.

I have a 2010 bursted R7 and I would go with progrocker's suggestion. My Burstbuckers are gone as are some other parts.

Go with the '14 as there were a few changes over the '10 (as above) and the truss rod condom being removed from '13 onwards........ at $350 more it's well worth it.
Plus I personally like the Custombuckers a lot more.......a better tone.
Didn't you get a case with your lemonburst?

Does 2014 have a better case?

Reasonable question but a bit curious that it’s the 1st thing you asked. Every single detail of the guitar as far more important to ask about than a replaceable case

Since I already have a 14 LB, I'm mulling getting the 2010 Goldtop because it had different pups. The case is actually immaterial. Although the brown case is arguably better than the black custom shop case.

I would call that an extremely subjective opinion.

There's nothing wrong with the black Custom Shop cases.

I have both types.

The only "better" cases are the 90's pink and tan USA cases. Because those are the best Gibson cases ever. : P

I think I'll get the 2014. Tried both gits. Didn't like the Burstbucker neck pup in the 2010.
