For those experienced with Fender gold hardware:

A little project with a new C/S guitar with gold hardware is a little confounding. This guitar was built with a little variety in hardware finishing, with the bridge, saddles, output plate, neck plate, and screws all plated with the familiar micron-thick gold plate. Similarly, the tuner cases and string capstans are micro coated. The guitar is white blond and is NOS, but with all of the above hardware sporting partially rubbed-off (extremely thin) gold plating. There is no “aging” per se, just a beautiful gold-nickel blend.

Except, the tuner buttons. These are full gold, very brassy-looking in finish. These look a bit out of place to me and I assumed that a little metal polish, when carefully applied, would thin the gold to match the rest of the tuner case and assembly. Nope... there seems to be a different finish application or material on the buttons. They don’t seem to be lacquered, but the gold finish on the buttons isn’t yielding to metal polish.

Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks-
