• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I’ve told the story in “introductions” so I’ll not rehash it here, but I wanted to show off my latest guitar acquisition if I might. Made on my birthday in 2011, although I’m a much older model. Found on CL. It had been listed for several weeks. I finally went for a look and made an offer. Ended up getting it fairly cheaply IMO. Knew right off it needed a setup, one Kluson and a knob as well as a thorough cleaning. I stripped it down and found both volume pots had been broken and there were actually three tuners requiring replacement. I’d planned to wet sand with a fine grit and polish it, but decided to try a compound my buddy uses at his automotive shop. It worked beautifully. The finish looks really shiny now. Gave it a coat of wax and was done. The compound removed paint that had been stuck on the finish, deepened the headstock black and made the whole guitar look cared for. I noticed the butt end strap button had been depressed into the body I assume from setting it down too hard. I made a brass spacer on the lathe at the shop. Ordered two new volume pots and installed them after shielding all the cavities (just because it was apart). Got everything back together and plugged it in for the first time and got nothing but noise..... Dejectedly set it aside. Next afternoon I started with checking ground continuity and found I had no continuity to the jack plug. The wire jacket hadn’t been soldered well. My fault, but an easy fix. It sounds great and is dead quiet. Might be a keeper.

Enjoy

Looks great dude! You are a true craftsman. A lot of people would reject a guitar that needs some work. Not me....I'm cheap!

HNGD!
