• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is this a Gibson humbucker?

I recently purchased a ’87 LP Std in pretty rough shape. I checked out the pot codes and they’re all from ’87. When I checked the pickups, the neck looks like a Shaw with the “Pat. No. 2,737,843” on the underside. The bridge pickup doesn’t have any markings underneath but looks similar to the Shaw only with 2 screws at the top and none of the dimples (see pic). Can anyone identify what it is?, Thanks

The pickup with the 12 pole punch is not a Shaw. Most likely a 490. The 6 pole punch with brass screws may be a Shaw spec paf but the lack of ink stamps makes it most likely a 490 too, as the older baseplate was used till gone you see a mix in 87.
