• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

  1. Hi, I bought this LP brand new in London '71, as is . It was a new delivery and had been in the shop 2 days and hung on the wall along with a Custom BB .I am trying to sell this guitar at the moment and I'm getting a lot of flak about these plastic rings around the Tailpiece studs which were on there when I bought it. I'm being accused of tampering and covering up .Has anyone ever seen this or can explain these rings .I've looked at thousands of photo and never seen them on another LP. Did Gibson change bridge/tailpiece suppliers at any time due to shortages and were the guitars already prepped for components that had a different Spec to the new supplier ??? Appreciate any help . I contacted Gibson and got a Don't Know and await a reply from Gruhn NY .

Better to post this in the Sunburst pub [correct area for this guitar].
Also, post a photo or two. :)

And what is "Gruhn NY"? :wah
Did he open a second shop in New York?

Gruhns Guitars vintage specialists. Yeah ! Photos I've got but I can't figure out how to Upload them .
It's a Goldtop not a Sunburst .

I've seen black plastic rings that go around the stop tailpiece mounts on early 70s Gibsons (LPs and SGs), they are "goof rings" for lack of a better term which is also used for the rings Gibson put around the LP Deluxe pick-ups.

Adding to observations noted for pickup and tailpiece studs, these ‘goof’ rings were also used for ABR bridge studs.

I have a set of black goof rings for tailpiece studs sitting in a bin on my workbench.

The Sunburst pub is a general area for all Gibson Les Pauls. This area where you posted [Vintage pub] is for 1950s era Les Pauls. If you will read the descriptions of the different Forum areas it will make more sense.
And the reason for posting in the correct area is to reach more members who are familiar with your subject. It is okay to post in the wrong area [except advertising your guitars], but it works better if you post in the correct area. :salude

Gruhn Guitars has always been in Nashville, so I did not understand why you put NY there. :hmm

I have seen goof hiders on early 70’s Gibsons. I actually thought they were quite common on Deluxes.

Two 73 SG’s I’ve had also had them.

I've seen goof rings on Customs, Deluxes, and SG's. It's really not that unusual.

I have seen those types of rings or whatever they are called before on Hollowbody Gibson's and was always perplexed by them and why they are there in the first place . If anyone can shed some light on this I would be most interested ?
