Are you saying only 137/138 are the only PAF version?

All the various pickups used a 3 digit prefix. The first reissue paf bore the 137 or 138 number. The numbers represent bridge or neck versions. The earliest only have 80 following the prefix with longer number codes following later in 1980.

They are factory inventory codes and other than the 3 digit model prefix and obvious date codes I am not sure what the other numbers represent. Remember the stamps wear off easily, so incomplete or missing numbers can be confusing.

This one is stamped 138 81.
My question is are other# 3 digit prefix different? I have seven different examples that all read about 7.3 to 7.7 ?

At that time all of the various humbuckers had white plastic bobbin base spacers and all of the alnico magnets were rough cast. The were making a variety of models, many in the 7.3-7.8k range. Ttops, Original Humbuckers, 490, 490t, 496r and True Blues all very similar yet had different prefix codes. Ohm resistance is a poor indicator of tone and inductance/resonate freq specs tell the tale. Ceramic models like the Velvet Brick are also similar.

In the mid/late 80's the reissue paf was changed and called 1959 Reissue Pickup and Shaw spec all gone.
