Ngd: Gibson Les Paul Standard 2008

    Hi All,

Firstly thanks for all of your advice towards buying my first Gibson Les Paul in my other post, I really appreciate it.

Anyway I just bought a 2008 Les Paul Standard in desert burst with a AA flame maple top and locking grover tuners. It also has an asymmetrical neck which is amazing. I love the colour too and the previous owner fortunately never fitted its pickguard which is great as there are no holes in the body.

Wow what a guitar I love it, what do you think hope you like it.

    Cheers

Built in the last quarter of 2008.

That's when they changed to the new circuit board in the control cavity.

A very handsome guitar saxosim. You can see how the flame changes as the light dances around, in the photos of the front.

No doubt she plays just as nicely as she looks.

    Enjoy!!

Yours looks fantastic too thanks for sharing love the flame on yours. Yes your right I didn't see any other desert bursts for sale when I was looking for my Les Paul. I had a few colours in mind I would have gladly settled on but I have always loved the look of a darker colour like a desert burst or bourbon burst.

Same as you though I imagine the photos don't do the top justice as I can't capture how nice it is with my camera phone

Thanks tonyj yes it plays far better than I imagined and I just can't put it down

I like the burstbuckers though I am tempted in a few months to try a set of Throbaks or Bare Knuckle Mules to go in it with double cream bobbins as long as I can get them supplied with the Gibson quick connect plugs as I want to keep it almost standard except for a few reversible mods of solid black rear cavity plates and pickups

No hurry though as love it how it is currently I just love the look of the Robert Johnson burst with cream bobbin PAFs

Wow, Saxsosim, that is a beautiful guitar! That's just about EXACTLY what I'm looking for, even if the neck feels like a 2x4! You just upped the urgency of my search by a factor of 100 times, hope you are happy! Thanks for sharing those pictures, really nice guitar!

What is a Robert Johnson Burst? I though he died 20 years before any burst was ever built.

Thanks for the really nice comments and encouragement about my new and first ever Gibson Les Paul, I really appreciate it what a great forum this is and very friendly. I posted it on another forum and was told how weird it was with the transparent cavity cover :(

Anyway thanks again all, I am off to play it now

The '08 Standard is a great instrument as far as I am concerned. The asymetrical neck is very comfortable, and I have no problem with the locking tuners, bridge & tailpiece, nor the chambered body and the neutrik jack socket and pcb. Of the four Les Pauls I own, it is my No. 1 gigging instrument:

Yes I know exactly what you mean the locking jack takes a bit to get used to. I can see a flaw in its idea that if I happened to trip or stand on the lead I think I would rather it pull out itself rather than take the strain and chance damaging the jack entirely if pulled hard enough. Luckily I only play in the home currently and mainly sitting down so the jack should not cause any problems

Re: Ngd: Gibson Les Paul Standard 2008

    Hi All

Well one week on after buying my Les Paul I thought I would give a quick update.

What a fantastic guitar I am so pleased with it. I have carried out 3 tiny changes just for aesthetics really, I have replaced the 'standard' TRC with a blank Gibson one as I wasn't keen on the modern font writing I and also have changed the rear transparent cavity plate for a black genuine Gibson one and put an amber switch tip on it. The transparent rear cavity plate was just a little modern for my tastes

Anyway what a guitar definitely a keeper

    Cheers

I have just ordered bone white pickup rings from Crazy parts in Germany as I am really not keen on the pinky cream ones that Gibson use. Just need to find a matching bone white switch ring for rythm/ treble now

Here is a link if anyone is interested and the price is fantastic - http://www.crazyparts.de/ueberuns/pi...-new/index.php
