I've loved every well built 5E3 type amp that I've played through. Fat and dynamic at usable volume levels.

Wonderful design and you should be very happy with your purchase. The official Fender vid sounds about right for a 5E3.

I'm not sure what the special design speaker is like (relabeled or spec'ed for Fender) but Eminence more often than not knows how to make a great sounding speaker. Imo no new company has been able to capture the sound of the old Chicago Jensens, so take that for what it's worth.

What a Tweed Deluxe lacks (although surprisingly varied once you wrap your head around the 2 Volume and tone control interaction) is offset by great tone and one of the best overdrives ever produced by a guitar amp.

Traditional, non-A5 magnet PAF style pickups can get a little muddy and woofy. Just crank up the tone, or grab a guitar with P90's, or a Tele, or a Strat, or a Danelectro, or a Gretsch...

    and have fun!

Go for it Dan, that combo is about NZ$5-6k here(if you can get one) and therefore not an option for most of us

I didn't even like Teles until I got a tweed Deluxe (clone)! Now I love Teles with every amp!

This thread inspired me to spend some time with my Tele with my Deluxe cranked to 12. What a beautiful mess of a sound!

Every one of those G&Ls I played was dead sounding. Another case of Tone being in the hands.

I think they're decent sounding! Ash body...heavy but sustains for days!! Stupod deal of the day at MF for 300 bucks!! I've been playing a long time so...all geetars I play sound like me. FWIW. YMMV.

No clips - but I A/ B d a Vintage 57 and the CS RI and was amazed at how good the RI is. The Vintage was a smidge better - but not much. You will love it

A custom 57 deluxe used just landed on my lap. I fired it up and it sounded great. I did find that it didn't have as much gain at i thought than i read that the first preamp tube is a 12ay7. Also did you find the amp to not be overly bright? I had to have the tone knob at least at 3 o'clock on the dial.

Darker thru mic input...but yeah it needs tone control on 4 or 5 afaic. My guitar is real bright. Would love to spec out PV so that I might change rectum fryer...also would love some RCA valves perhaps with 1 Mullard ECC83...but alas all my tubes are gone. Still a great new amp from Fender!

    Interesting.

Not sure about the Reissue, but I've always found 5E3's to be on the dark side, often too muddy on the mic channel.

For gain try a nos 5751 in V1. Prices are usually not too bad.

Re: Fender Custom '57 Tweed Deluxe Coming!!

Tried a used one of these today(most probably the only one in the country) with a SG.........all I can say is that I am amazed at how good this combo sounds at high volume and a welcome difference to the other Fenders I've played, this one holds tight on the bottom end and doesn't get flabby and mushy.
The mic channel is a darker sound but with a Tele I'm guessing it'd still be very usable.
