• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Suhr Auras are making it out to dealers finally

Found out that Mike Ponce left Suhr some time last year, at NAMM '18 he was originally announced as the other guy working on the initial 100 run. Could be the reason for the delay. Regardless, some of the serials between #1 and #10 are starting to show up on social media and I have to say they look amazing.

Pretty pricey, no braz and no old growth. I’d rather go for a Bartlett

I’ve seen several 2 piece Aura bodies online now. Which, I only have issue with because of the price point. Complete BS IMO.
Over at TGP, when this was pointed out from a photo- John says “he prefers two piece bodies as it’s better for warping or some bullshit” really? So all other Suhr 1 piece bodies are one winter away from potential catastrophic failure?
Then he goes on to say how he personally spends two days on each one, going on to say how some may feel that’s not a big deal, but to those that know, they’ll see the difference or something? Really?
Hmm, ok, so all other Suhrs not graced by his magic touch are dogshit then?

He’s defended using full thickness binding which looks like complete ass in the cutaway IMO, but is like a million times easier to install than trying to do it like on vintage Les Pauls. Just say, doing it that way is super hard, long live the Norlin era or at least something honest. But don’t pass it off as “better”. It’s subjective. So are PT Cruisers.

He also shat on binding nibs stating that his frets are better because you don’t lose fret realestate? Well, you don’t lose any fret area if you bind it properly with thin biding and chamfer the fret end to reveal only half fret and half binding on the fret. All things that would justify the absurd upcharge. All things that if addressed would take what is without question a phenomenal instrument, and make it luxury, reflective of the price and absurd wait times. But the “cheaping out” on these details just feels greasy to me.
